Charles A. "Chuck" Simon Sr

Charles A. (Chuck) Simon Sr. passed away on Friday, November 27th, after a long illness. He was at home and surrounded by loved ones. He was 78 years old. Chuck was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a proud, hard-working member of the International Longshoremen's Association AF of L-CIO, Local 3000. For years he was known as "The Moose" because of his strength. After surviving multiple life threatening accidents and illnesses throughout his life, he also earned the nicknames "Bionic" and "Miracle Man." He was truly one of a kind. Chuck is survived by his wife of 37 years, Katherine (Kitty) Brewer Simon and his 4 sons, Charles Simon Jr. (Missy), Kirk Simon (Tammy), Michael Simon and Edward Simon. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Chuck will be greatly missed by his brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, extended family, and many friends. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, December 5th, at 1:00 pm at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, La. 70124. Visitation begins at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to the SPCA, ARNO, or The Beagle Freedom Project would be appreciated.
