Charles "Chuck" Walsh, age 52, was called to meet God on January 8, 2015. Beloved son of Francis "Knobby" Walsh (deceased) and Violet Walsh and brother of James Walsh (Priscilla), Dennis Walsh (Jane), Kathy Walsh (Justin Scanlan), Patti Walsh (Lester Boos), Maureen Walsh (Bruce Horowitz), Philip Walsh, Robert Walsh (Tara Shaw), and brother-in-law of Pat Walsh. Preceded in death by siblings Michael Walsh and Marian Walsh. Favorite uncle of Caitlin Walsh (deceased), Kelly Walsh, Nicholas Scanlan, Ali Walsh, Marian Walsh, Drew Scanlan, Rachel Scanlan, Elise Boos, Sean Walsh, Jason Walsh, Ryan Horowitz, Jake Boos, Celia Horowitz, Colleen Walsh, Julia Walsh and favorite godson of Geraldine Walsh Terranova. Proud graduate of St. Michael's Special School, Special Olympics athlete, member of Happy Bowlers, Carnival king of several special citizens' groups, tireless advocate for his special needs friends and peers, happy camper at Abbie Rogers Citivan Camp, former employee of Schweggman's and Burger King, and loyal parishioner of St. James Major Church. Following the onset of Alzheimer's, Chuck retired from the ARC workshop where he participated for many years. During his illness, he was lovingly cared for by Stella May, Kim Fields, Guardie Brock, and Sheila Salvant. Although Chuck had a limited vocabulary, he was able to communicate love and joy to all he met, wherever he went. He loved dancing, Mardi Gras, Tulane, the sports page, typing, painting and creating collages, donating to many charities, celebrating his birthday, and receiving any type of mail. Chuck loved sports: wrestling, bowling, and swimming. Chuck was extremely friendly and popular. His siblings were often surprised at venues throughout New Orleans when he was recognized and always warmly welcomed. He was their entry to many places and people. Because of his love of New Orleans, Mayor Mitch Landrieu gave him a key to the city at his 50th birthday party. He loved life and brought the best out in everyone. His joy was contagious. He touched the life and heart of everyone he met. Ever the jokester, Chuck loved to tease. If you were ever called a "meatball", "wimp", "fool" or told to "sit on it", you had made it into Chuck's club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Association of Retarded Citizens of Greater New Orleans and St. Michael's Special School. Relatives and friends of are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5200 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, LA. Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday January 12, 2015 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and again on Tuesday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Dear Kathy,
I worked with you out at UNO in the Fine Arts and Philosophy department. I remember meeting Chuck at your home. I was so struck by the love and happiness your family exhibited, even though I knew you in a time of great sorrow.
