Clarence Rutter Obituary

Clarence W. ''Totsy'' Rutter, Jr. of Pensacola passed away Monday, August 26, 2002. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years Adlyn ''Teta'' Thiberville Rutter. He is survived by one son and daughter in law, C.W. ''Rocky'' and Susan, Norman, OK., one daughter Steve Rutter, Jacksonville, FL; one grandson, Jason Rutter, Nashville, TN; one granddaughter and husband, Jessica and Mike Ross, Moore, OK and one great grandson, Parker Ross. Born in New Orleans, August 19, 1924 to Clarence & Odette Rutter, Totsy learned to sail as a youngster. He was also fascinated with aviation and earned his pilot licenses as a teenager. Totsy became a naval aviator during WWII, also earning a commercial pilot license during that time. His love of aviation continued throughout his life, having last flown a Globe Swift this past October. Totsy was a longtime member of the New Orleans Yacht Club, a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, and Honorary member of the Silver Eagles Association, a member of the New Orleans Hanger of the Anciente and Secret Order of Quiet Birdmen and helped establish the Daytona Hanger. Viewing will be from 11:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. Thursday, August 29 at OAK LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 619 New Warrington Rd. followed by graveside service at Barrancas National Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to M.D. Anderson Cancer Clinic, Houston, TX. OAK LAWN FUNERAL HOME has charge of the arrangements.
