Colleen Lewis Obituary

Colleen Mann Lewis passed away peacefully at her home early on March 24, 2017, at the age of 87. She was the loving wife of the late Professor Joseph E. Lewis, Jr. and is survived by her children Raymond E. Lewis and Tina Lewis Farge (Doug), grandchildren Justin J. Farge (Ashley) and Alexander J. Farge (Diana), great-grandson Benjamin J. Farge, and her cat KoKo. Born on February 9, 1930, her younger days took her to Hinds Junior College and Stetson University where she majored in music, had her own radio show, and sang professionally; but she spent most of her life in New Orleans. She continued her love of music in her professional life, working at Werlein's in the sheet music department for more than 50 years. She took great pride in working in her garden, collecting antique irons, and spoiling her grandkids. She also most recently enjoyed playing in the American Legion and Jefferson Parish Community bands. For anyone that ever met her, Colleen's character touched them with an unmistakable joy and happiness. Her energetic kindness radiated to all of her family, friends, and even her cats always giving in an unselfish manner. Her thoughtfulness was unrelenting, and her personality was always generous by nature. She was so dear to everyone; accolades constantly came from anyone who knew her or had the pleasure of meeting her. Truly one of God's earth Angels, losing Colleen is a great worldly loss. She will be infinitely missed by everyone. At her request, there will be no services. To view and sign the guest book, visit www.lakelawnmetairie.com.

Ms. Colleen was the most fun loving and compassionate lady you would ever want to know. I had taken trumpet lessons from her husband, Professor Lewis and she always encouraged me and we had many wonderful conversations. I don't know how she could tolerate my trumpet playing.
She was like a mother to me and she always gave me the best advice about raising my girls. She will always be in my prayers and in my best memories.
PS: Mr Joe was the best and patient music professor. I loved both Ms. Colleen and her husband .May God be with both of them and they will always hold a special place in my heart.
