My deepest condolences to the Sutton Family, and to the extended UNC forensics family who knew him well while at UNC, mainly his teamates and coaches, in the years directly following my own involvement as a member of this Program as an undergraduate.

I, too, had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Curtis on the Carolina IE (Individual Events) Speech Team. I never met anyone who wasn't comfortable around Curtis. He exuded care and his smile...well, it showed what was within. It is wonderful to read the other comments and learn more about the many he touched along the way. The world was a much better place having had Curtis as a part. I am sorry I did not stay in touch over the years. His soul and his family and friends remain in my prayers!

Curtis was my fraternity brother, fellow speech team member, and dear, dear friend for over 30 years. I met him when I was an insecure 18 year old and he believed in me when it mattered. As such I developed the confidence to believe in myself. At UNC, Curtis was Big Man On Campus, and if he gave you the nod to imply You Were Cool, then That Was It! Curtis said I was cool. He was one of those rare breeds who embraced brotherhood and mentorship not as THE thing to do as the "extra-curricular"...but rather this was just in his DNA. We traveled all over the country while at Chapel Hill on UNC's Speech Team, and competed against some of the NCAA' s Top Ranked universities. Curtis helped lead us to 2 National Championship Titles.
Curtis pledged me on a long and rigorous Omega Psi Phi pledge process, and even then he never let the Big Brothers take me totally down...! We just had the best time over the years, and laughed and laughed and laughed. It was probably my first real friendship. I am just soo sad right now, and every time I see the "RIP" I have to ask myself is this for real???...Love you, Curtis, my brother! Gone To Soon.

To the Family and Friends of Curtis, his Canadian friends have heavy hearts and are deeply saddened to hear of his passing. I remember Curtis for the ability to capture the hearts of all who met this gentle giant. Curtis was always the one who lit up the room with love and song, a soulful voice which I listen to each morning on my way to work. "Somewhere Over The Rainbow"...you will find him...and he will have a smile as big as the man himself...I will miss you, my friend,as will all who met you ! On to your next journey . Hugs!

To the family of Curtis, you have my DEEPEST sympathy in the passing of your loved one. I just happened to arrive from China, and I always look at the obituaries. I am totally shocked! He was truly a WONDERFUL person, and I would always see him in the New Orleans Airport. My heart is deeply saddened. He was loved, and will be missed by many, especially myself. Love to the family.
