Condolences to the family and friends of this gentleman. It's Oct 1, 2024. I'm having a difficult day today. I decided to take a walk in Audubon park, and visit the fly. As I walked I stopped at Overlook C. The area is shady, quiet, and peaceful. To my surprise , a plaque. It's Daniel Hernandez. I decided to look up Mr Daniel. It's a beautiful thing to read the love, support , and beautiful memories your love one's have shared. Continue to watch over us all Daniel. I now feel better to push on this course we call life. From another, Daniel peace and love.

Daniel, I was only 8 or 9 when you passed away. It tears me apart to think about how little I remember of you, my own brother. Today I watched a video of me waking you up for Christmas 15 years ago and watching it made me grateful to have someone like you to call brother. I hadn't heard your voice since you passed and I'd forgotten what you sounded like. It breaks my heart every time when dad tries to get me or Christian's attention and he accidentally says Daniel. I'll never forget the day you passed but I'll also never forget the days we spent together. I can't wait to see you again.

Thinking about you today. I remember the time we found that gigantic alligator snapping turtle in the middle of Wisner by bayou st john around four o'clock in the morning on the way to my fema trailer. We both just got out of the car and watched it for a long time, not a care in the world, it was like time had stopped. Seems like yesterday.

Hi sweetheart. Christian graduated it was nice. We went out to dinner in the quarter. Cassie's family joined us. They are really sweet.We spoke about you. Dear Amy and Eddie. I was heartbroken when I learned of Daniel's death. As I have read through the many pages from the guest book, I have been struck by the enormity of the love of family and friends and the incredible outpouring of sympathy for a child that will never be forgotten. I will never forget our carpool days at St. George's with Richard. The days that the boys would get together and spend the afternoons and how sweet Daniel was....one of my all time "carpool favorites" I grieve for your loss and cannot begin to feel the pain of losing someone so wonderful. Amy, I love your letters to Daniel, Eddie - your fairy tale was utterly amazing and Christian, your incredible letter to Daniel says it all, you are a GREAT BROTHER! There is not a day that goes by that I do not think of you. Whether looking at the sky or hearing a Beatles/Marley song on the radio. I know that you are still with us in spirit and are watching over all of us. I can feel your presence saying that it will be ok. Memories of you flood my mind - playing with the kids, getting beat up by the kids, just hanging out and seeing you come off the bus after the hurricane with a small dirty duffle bag. Despite all that you went through you were carefree and happy. We should all learn to take life in stride like you and to enjoy each moment. They say that a brother is a friend given by nature. I want you to know how blessed I feel and how greatful I am to have had an amazing friend like you. I want you to know that the qualities I posses that others consider admirable, I got them from you. I want you to know how much you inspired me and how much I looked up to you. I want you to know how proud I am of you, how much I love you and how much I miss you. You had the incredible gift to make everyone around you a better person and I hope that now you can truly see how loved you were and how missed you are. The day Heidi and Eddie were married I was blessed with 2 nephews and a neice. What a gift that was! They all became such an important part of our family. It was wonderful to watch Daniel grow from a silly, funny little boy into a tall handsome, kind young man. He always showed such respect and kindness to others and when he smiled it was so genuine it was contagious.
Daniel we will think of you when the sun is shining, when it is raining, when we see the ocean and the bayou. We will think of you always and you will be missed so much.

I remember when you came back from your trip to Fiji and I couldn't wait to ask you about it, to hear all about your adventures, what you saw, experienced, ate, learned. When I asked you, "how was Fiji?" in typical Daniel fashion you answered, "Fine. Fiji was good. I had fun." Simple, succinct and honest. I will miss those qualities too. My beloved son, perhaps you remember when you were a child how I used to tell you, your sister and brother fairy tales that I poorly created. Grasping ideas from my imagination in a desperate attempt to entertain and excite you all, I would battle with my accent and lack of eloquence while the four of us would catch our breath on the trampoline after a game of “spider”. I clearly remember your casual, sarcastic and funny comments that made my failing task even worse: “Once upon a time there was a little princess....” [Daniel] “Yeah, yeah, yeah, we know Dad...her name was Alexis!”... “and two pirates...” [Daniel] “We know, we know...me and Christian…, for the love of GOD Dad, can we be someone else!”
The stories were full of treasures; stars and ships, there were fearless sword fights, loud canyons, and flying dragons. At the end, Princess Alexis was always safe and you and your brother had conquest richness beyond anyone’s imagination. Undoubtfully (because of her age) your sister Alexis was the main character and you and your brother took the back stage. Well....many years have passed by and for one reason or another I have not enjoyed the opportunity of being a story teller again, so tonight as I tuck you in bed I would like to tell you another story, but this time it goes like this:
Once upon a time in a far away kingdom there was a prince name Daniel.
Daniel was a handsome, energetic and curious kid whose explendit and radiant personality was impossible to ignore. He was gifted with a whip sharp mind, almost super human abilities and a charming sense of humor that will make anyone smile, even in the most inappropriate circumstances. As years passed by, always with exciting adventures and dramatic battles against friendly adversaries that scarred his body with painful but valuable lessons, Daniel grew from a boy into a young man.
The fearless child became a noble man; his earlier years had filled his heart with love, passion and fairness. People loved Daniel, and without difficulties or doubts everyone recognized his virtues and talent. It was not unusual during gatherings to discuss how this young prince would one day become a mighty king, how brave and wise he had become and how lucky the young lady will be.
Daniel's love for his family and friends was immeasurable, often risking finding himself in battles and troubles that ended in the loss of his freedom or treasures, all for the sake of loyalty and to ease their pain and sorrow. Daniel lived life one day at a time, admiring the simplicity and beauty of nature while accepting and respecting its brutality. Not bothered by materialistic issues, often gave it all in exchange for nothing.
He sipped from the cup of life in lands faraway, charting new chapters on his book, surrounded by intimate friends, while sensing the rain, the wind and the sea on his face.
His passion for excitement left many scars on his body, each one a constant reminder that fear was nothing less than a useless sentiment that pushed him away from his throne and glory.
A passionate king he had grown to be! A king that has been blessed with an extreme sense of pride and duty. With a soft heart and a strong will, his judgment and actions spoke loud and clear of his conscious ideas.
No doubt in anyone's mind that Daniel had grown from a likeable prince to an admirable king. A king who was loved and respected by all. A king ready to battle and defend his land, a king that ruled over his kingdom just as he lived his life…full of love ,full of passion and full of fairness….., and he lived happily ever after........
Daniel my love...remember that we all are very proud of you, that you have been a blessing into our lives, and that no matter time or space you will always be we us.

I was at Daniel's service, and the outpouring of love was so tangible. How proud you must be for him and of him. I was fortunate to meet Daniel when I first moved to New Orleans in 1992, when Amy and I became fast friends. I saw him grow up into a handsome, kind, and talented young man. It was obvious he was raised by many persons who loved him, and that showed in his qualities as a young man. I know that Daniel's spirit will continue to live through those who loved and knew him. Daniel was my cousin....but he was more then a cousin to me....he was my older brother...my hero. He never failed to put a smile on my face or anyone elses. He looked out for me and teased me just like any other silly older brohter would. We shared the best memories together, went on many amazing trips and so much more. As horrible as this is, it brings me comfort about death now because when I die I know I will have someone so amazing and wonderful waiting for me in heaven.
