David Bryan "Dave" Sigur obituary, 1971-2023, Slidell, LA

David Sigur Obituary

David Bryan Sigur, age 51, of Slidell, Louisiana passed away on May 19, 2023. Born on July 23, 1971, he was the son of Gustave "Gus" Sigur, Jr. and Sylvia (Gristina) Sigur. He married his beloved wife, Beth (Johnson) Sigur, on September 23, 2000. He was the proud father of Mary "Janie" Sigur and Sophie Sigur. He was a loyal brother to Jill (Ross) Guastella and Mark (Pam) Sigur and an amazing uncle to Erica (Joe) Hingle; Marisa (Ed) White; Ross Guastella, IV; Maggie Sigur; Nicolette Sigur; and Conner Sigur. Dave was the cherished son-in-law of Eric and Linda Johnson and brother-in-law to Eric (Eric) Johnson. He was Godson to Dr. Gary Glynn and Gretchen Chauvin. Dave was New Orleans born and raised and he loved his hometown. Growing up in New Orleans East, he graduated from Holy Cross in 1989. He continued his education with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Rehabilitation Services from LSU. Dave put his education into action through his company, Sigur Homes, a construction company specializing in servicing those with special needs. So here's our David, or rather Dave. He had the best, most infectious laugh and a wicked sense of humor. He lit up every room he walked into. His home was everyone's home. His door was always open, with people coming and going. He loved that. Vintage, muscle cars were his thing – especially his original baby – a 1970 GTO. He proudly showed them off on his annual Cruising the Coast trip or just driving around the neighborhood. Disney World was a frequent vacation spot. He also loved a good cruise and chilling at his beach place in Gulf Shores. Without question, he knew how to enjoy life. He was a fan of funny memes and jokes, scrolling through Frenchie videos, riding in the Krewe of Thoth parade, and shopping for cars on auction sites. Dave loved the Saints and was a season ticket holder for nearly 20 years. He generously gave them away in the last few years when his health frequently kept him from attending in person. He never passed up a good crawfish boil. Made the best BBQ shrimp and meatballs. And, you couldn't keep him out of his local Waffle House. He was the ultimate girl dad to Janie and Sophie. It didn't matter if it was a soccer game on the other side of the country or a musical down the street – he was there – cheering and filled with pride. For the guy who never wanted a dog, he had two Frenchies, (he finally got his boys), who never left his side and who he spoiled rotten. He was the most caring son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. His family were his friends, and his friends were his family. Dave had incredibly loyal friends – some of them for his lifetime. He would have done anything for them. And, they have done everything for him, especially over these last few years, months, weeks, and days. Their support has been truly awe-inspiring. His kindness carried over to causes near to his heart – which he supported regularly and generously – and with total humility. Dave loved life. It was too soon for him to go and he fought hard to stay – enduring endless rounds of chemo and radiation for nearly three years. In the end, he went peacefully surrounded by those he loved and who loved him. He will be greatly missed and there will be a hole in our hearts forever. We are all so grateful for the time we had with him. His life was far too short, but so well lived. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Our Lady of Lourdes School in Slidell, Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans, or Holy Cross School in New Orleans.

I am lost for words. I cannot think of a more loving family than the Sigur family. God's ways are beyond our understanding.

I was good friends with Dave's older brother in high school. Dave was the little brother who just one of the fellas. I moved away from New Orleans after college and lost track of him. I started reading Dave on FB and realized how we were more alike than I ever realized. I spoke with Mark about Dave's experience and was glad to hear not only how loved he was but that he was surrounded with the people he loves right up to the end. Mark told me how Dave had his sense of humor right up to the end. I'm so sorry for all of his family and friends. This world has lost a genuine gem. He was a family man, a good friend and a good son. I will think of him often. We will miss you Dave. Thanks for all the fish!

Even though I hadn't seen David in many years, I remember clearly how kind, smart, sweet, and funny he was. I enjoyed seeing his posts on Facebook and it was obvious his family and friends were his life! I grew up in the East and Dave had so many friends and everyone loved him! I'm so sorry for his wife, girls, family, and friends. Such a tremendous loss. May you find some peace in knowing what a good man he was to so many.
With my deepest and sincere condolences.

Beth,
I don´t know what to say, but I do know that first time I took family pictures for y´all. It was just him, and the two girls. And I could tell he was a hell of a father! Even at that early of an age of the girls.
