David James Thomas

David James Thomas departed this life peacefully at his residence on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at age 73. He was a native of Opelousas, LA, and a resident of Marrero, LA. David graduated from Plaisance High School, and he attended Southern University Baton Rouge. He served is country in the United States Army and United States Air Force for over 30 years ranking to a Master Sergeant; receiving AF Outstanding Unit Award, AF Longevity Service Ribbon just to name a few. David was employed as a supervisor with The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company, and Budweiser Company. Beloved husband of Amelia T. Jackson Thomas. Devoted father of Yolanda (Abraham) Straughter, Metrica Thomas, Daniell (Devin Sr.) Jackson, Tranetta (Edmond) Weber and Alvin E. (Tiffanie) Jackson Jr. Bonus father of Robin (Joseph) Dyson. Son of the late of Abel, Sr. and Lillie Thomas. Brother of Jerome (Paula) Thomas, Sylvia (Lester) Pitre, and the late Joanna Thomas-Guidry, Henry Lee Thomas, Sr., John W. Thomas, and Abel Thomas, Jr. Nephew of Fredrick (Juanita) Thomas, Sr. and Joyce Sharpe. Godfather of Aubrey Rose Gillard, and Darla Thomas, also survived by 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Third Emanuel Baptist Church, Holy Faith B. C. of New Orleans, Mohorn Baptist Church of Plaisance, LA and all neighboring churches; members of VFW Post 500, 926th Air Force Service Flight, and Westminister Civic Association; employees of Budweiser Company, The Great Atlantic & Tea Company, and Orleans Parish Sheriff Office, are invited to attend the Home Going Celebration at Third Emanuel B.C., 187 3rd Emanuel St., Bridge City, LA, on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. Dr. Joseph C. Dyson, Sr. officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment: Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Slidell, LA.?
