Dexter S. Kimble Obituary

On active duty for 13 years, Dexter S. Kimble used his travel opportunities to shower his family with exotic gifts. Wooden masks from Japan dot the walls of their home and it wasn't unusual for a package to arrive filled with artsy jewelry and local handicrafts from abroad. "Dexter is the kind of husband you want your daughter to marry," said Ruby Jenkins, his mother-in-law. "He was so sweet to her," Kimble, 30, of Houston, died Jan. 26 when his helicopter crashed in western Iraq. He was based at Miramar. Kimble, who had a passion for his Suzuki racing motorcycle, had hoped to retire from the Marines and become a private pilot, said his wife, Dawanna. "That's why he joined the Marines," she said. "He wanted to fly." Kimble would insist that his five children not be on base before his deployment, but this past August, before leaving for Iraq, he asked Dawanna to bring their newborn daughter. "Not too long ago, he sent her a postcard that said, 'Baby, I know you don't know me, and I want you to remember me,'" she said. "Maybe he knew something would happen."

My sincerest heartfelt condolences to your family. I´m just now discovering this website.
I served with SSgt Kimble in HMH-361 back in 2003. He was an exemplary Marine, kind hearted and a true leader. I´ve ran the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington D.C. in honor of SSgt Kimble in 2019 with the wear blue: run to remember nonprofit. I´ll be returning this year as a volunteer. His picture will be displayed during the tribute "mile to remember" (mile 12 of the marathon) along with a ribbon.
Sending you and your family healing prayers of peace and love.

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Dexter S. Kimble US Marine Staff Sergeant. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

SSgt,

I miss you man. I just found out about this website. I always called you SSgt Kimble, I was a Corporal fro S-1 that had more fun as an Aerial Observer and with you guys at the flightline. I never called you by your first mame, and I will not do so.

I miss you Brother, I try to keep up with all the Marine news and events. I have been out since 2008. And learning about you, was a very painful thing.

You are a hero. I never met your wife and kids, but I remember them due to few events at the squadron. But I think about them. Today I read some of the entries on this website. I felt like I wanted to give them a hug, and tell them that I am here to help them with anything at my capacity.

Sorry that I do not have the best words to translate you and your contribution to our country. English is my second language, I still have the same accent that make people try to traslate what I said. I will create courage and approach your wife on FB, to let her know that I am here for your family.

I have two beautiful daugthers, and I talk about you with my 9 years old, her name is Addrianna Isabel. My 4 year old does not understand the meaning of sacrifices yet. But I will talk about you with jer very soon, her name is Isabella.

You, MSgt Riddick, SSgt Patberg are not forgotten. I love you guys.

Semper Fi Brother.

Hi dad. I'm grown up so much since last time I wrote on here. I'm 14 years old and will be 15 in 5 months. I'm a freshmen at west valley high school, and I really do like it there. Mom hasn't been her best these past couple of weeks and she misses you badly. Now she's in the hospital. Nana came down as soon as I called her and she's there with mom while I'm here with the kids. Donte looks more and more like you everyday, and his personality is just like yours too. Shakara is smarter than you could ever imagine. Jazmin is a wild child and has some of you at heart. EJ. is all grown up now and is starting his new life in his own. We all miss you, but we know you're in the heavens looking down on us and helping us along the way. I know that we will all meet again one day.

Kimchi,
Man you have been on my mind and on the tip of my tongue lately. First a 53 from HMH-363 went down in Afghanistan a week or so ago and I immediately thought of you. I just reflected on the sacrifices that so many of our brothers and sisters make. Then I saw your wife's FB posting about the anniversity of the tragedy. Let me tell you there is an awful lot of love for both you and your family out there. Then I get asked about why I am wearing these combat boots everyday and it gives me an opportunity to share your story. Yup you inspired me and I rock these joints everyday. Lastly D called me yesterday out of the blue or maybe you had something to do with it and we talked and laughed and shared some jokes at your expense of course. You have been on my mind alot here recently. I try to keep it light but when the anniversary of Sept.11th came and all of the coverage. I could not help but think of the fallen that sacrificed so much. I also recently was in the attic and low and behold were my combat boots. And you guess it I have been wearing them everyday since. It started out as being for while I ride my bike but now I just rock them just like you did. When people ask why I am wearing them I immediately begin talking about you. So your legacy is spreading all over Chicagoland. Love you brother and thanks for watching over me. I know you were a crew chief but you are my personal Aerial Observer and I am comforted by know you are watching me from above.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY!!!

I often come to this page just to glance and I am still overwhelmed with all the outpouring of love and sympathy you still receive after 5 years. Baby you touched so many people lives including ours and I wake up every morning missing you stealing all the kids snacks on your way to work, hugging snd kissing all of us as you made your way out the door. The sound of you starting that damn motorcycle you opening and closing the garage door and then me getting the phone call that you made it safely to the hangar at work. Most of all I miss your smile and your laugh and no matter what we were going through you always told me to hang in there and remember that I was a Marine's wife and that our kids were Marine Kids aka Bebe's kids . Kids and I already baked a cake for you and we got balloons that should be coming your way sometime tomorrow as we release them to you like we do evey year. I know it is suppose to get easier every year and I don;t know when that will begin for us because you are sorely missed and I know that GOD had something special planned for you and he needed you most. I still stand proud Dexter as your soul-mate, the mother of our beautiful children and now a wife of a hero. Words cannot explain how much you mean to us and We love you dearly and miss you with all our hearts. Give my big sister Cherri a hug for me, I love you always.

Dexter,
I am saddened that I have just learned of this page but you have never left my heart. I was just talking about you the other day. Then God reveals a photo of you to me on facebook.

As I read each post on here carefully I had a chance to revisit your life and the time that we shared. You were a brother to me. I can remember sitiing up playing chess for hours on end and watching you draw with those comic books. But more importantly you were always smiling yet was so serious. I can see you right now walking around them combat boots on. You wore those everywhere.

I can't help but cry typing this because I miss you and loved you. Kimchi is what we called you. Me you and Dismukes riding on the back of the bus in Okinawa playing chess on a moving bus. I even sold you my motorcycle right before I left California and the Corps. I am gonna stop now but just know that now that I know of this page I will visit you often and tell others about it. The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

In a little more than a week it will be 4 years. I look back on it and it seems like both ages ago and yesterday.
I know, like you, I do not go a day without thinking not only of my son but of all those that died that day.
I also think about those that did not that day and the feelings that they may have for surviving and going on with their lives.
I’m sorry that I have never written before. I guess it was not my time to do so.
Out of all that died that day I only knew Mike, but they were all brothers and because of that, they were all, my son’s.
The tears that I shed for him I shed for all.

Dear Mrs. Kimble,
I would like to offer my condolences!! It has been 3 years since this tragic accident. I have seen your husband’s picture on many occasions and I remembered the name and face but couldn’t quite remember where I knew him from. I thought maybe I had met him at some point in the Marine Corps because you meet so many people throughout your career. Today I was looking at the news paper online from back home (The Houston Chronicle) and I saw your husband’s picture again and then it hit me where I knew him from!! Your husband and I went to high school together (Booker T. Washington H.S.)! We were even in the same club organization in high school called the Gents. I remember him being pretty quite in high school and I never really talked with him that much because he was a grade or two above me and I believe that he was in the engineering program and most of their classes were upstairs or in the science building. What’s even more ironic is that I will be flying in Iraq soon with his old squadron HMH-462 (The Screw Crew) and we are replacing HMH-361 (The Flying Tigers) that are going back to Miramar. I have talked to some of the crew-chiefs that have flown with him to include some of the pilots and everyone has nothing but great things to say about him and his legacy continues to live on not only in the Marine Corps but as a helicopter crew-chief, loving husband, and wonderful father!!!

Very Respectfully,

To My Niece,
Without a doubt, you and your children have very fond memories of Dexter. Dwell on those happy memories. Everytime you're feeling down, just think about a pleasant moment you had with Dexter. I have a "glad" book. When I think about something that made me glad or happy or proud, I write it down in my "glad book". At those times when I'm feeling depressed, I take out my glad book and read something that puts a smile on my face. I also read a scripture in the Bible; for example, Romans 8:35-39 is one of my favorite scriptures. May God continue to keep you and give you strength, joy and peace. As Grammie use to say, "you're rough and tough". Be encouraged.

Keep the Faith and if you must believe in something believe and trust in the Lord with all your heart , mind and soul. If he can bring you to it,he can bring you through it.

I had the honor of serving with Dexter in the Screw Crew for many years. We were roomates for a while in Tustin and he always made me laugh with his quiet sense of humor. He was a man that would go out of his way to help a friend and he was the finest Marine. Dexter, Berley, Rainman and I would hangout together quite often. He will be missed but never forgotten.

We lost our sweet Soldier a month ago in Iraq. You are not alone in your pain. Celebrate Dexter's life and know that he is always with you in spirit. Only the house he lived in is gone. He is with you always. God Bless Dexter for fighting for our freedom. God Bless America.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

For the first time since Dexter passed I attended a Memorial Service. For all of you who know me and my family I have been attending memorial services for my uncle Bobby Holley who passed away in Vietnam since I have been able to walk. I just never thought I would be attending for a spouse. during the ceremony I kept hearing the phrase "Freedom is not Free" I so appreciate all the words and kind thoughts regarding my precious Dexter, He is so missed by me and his children. Cherish each day with your loved ones.

God Bless

I make it a point to keep Dexter's memory alive in my heart. He was and is very special to me I sometimes wish I was able to talk to him before he passed, so we could reminisce about heading down to Del Mar E-Club, driving to the Garment District and talking about life and everything in general or better yet talking about the BBQ at the park in Tustin (you had to be there lol) Dexter you are loved and missed

SSGT Dexter Kimble was a great man. He always knew how to lift people up and saw the positive side in everything. I still miss him and he is thought of often. His thoughtful and calm demeanor made you want to be a better person. I had the honor of serving with Dexter at MCAS Miramar, San Diego, CA in HMM-165 aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard LHD-6 and HMH-462 from 2001 to 2003. Dexter was the Best this country and the Marine Corps had to offer. If I can help out in any way, please let me know.

For the first time since it came out, I just watched the movie staring Nicholas Cage about 9-11. I was watching this while wrapping christmas gifts & as I sat there looking at all the gifts I had already wrapped I got a sick feeling in my gut. I started thinking about those families of of friends I had lost. I think about my friends all the time - I can't even imagine what it's like for the families. People say i need to put it all behind me but it's hard. Every day something reminds me of someone. A couple of months ago I had a new tattoo added to the collection. I had an EGA about the size of a baseball put on my left side of my rib cage. The artist thought I was really nuts when I came back to add the names of some close friends to my side. SSGT Kimble is 3rd on the list of 8.
To all the families of our fallen heros, you will be in my thoughts and prayers this holiday season as you always are. I hope your doing well Dawanna - Merry Christmas.

To all our friends at HMH462 Miramar I wanted to thank you all for the honor you showed me and my family at this years Marine Corp Ball. We realized that many of you cherish Dexter's memory, it was nice to hear your stories that each of you had about Dexter. I felt his spirit right there amongst all of you. Thank you again to squadron HMH-462 Screw Crew.

Hey Dexter you may be gone but you will never be forgotten because you touched many lives including mine. Even when I did not want to you found a way to get the point over and through that thick skull of mine. Hey man I got in touch with Big Ron, Ronald Raymond we chatted about how we missed you and how it felt to have a part of you disappear in an instant. You are loved and missed by many that is the Legacy that I want to leave when my time here is done
