Donald G. Schoenbrun

Donald G. Schoenbrun began his eternal nap on March 16, 2017, as a result of "Elderitis" and complications from a fractured hip. He is survived by his wife Darlene Treitler Alexander Schoenbrun, daughters Beth Toups and Dawn Wheeler, and his son David, step-sons Greg and Geoff Alexander, and step-daughter Jennifer Alexander, ten grandchildren, and now great-grandchildren. Born in Dover, New Jersey in 1931, Don graduated from the University of Vermont and served in the USAF during the Korean War. He has been a resident of New Orleans and Metairie since 1957. During the course of his life, Don has been employed by the Jacobs Family Hotel Chain and Horworth & Horworth as a Food and Beverage Cost Controller, as a supervisor for Tulane University Food Service and McKenzie Bakeries, and as the Director of Food Service Management Training for the Louisiana Department of Education. Don's career with Popeyes Famous Fried Chicken spanned 19 years as National Director of Training, Director of Program Design, Director of Publishing, and Director of Franchise Training Programs and Special Projects. He has belonged to the International Food Service Executives Association and served as its International President during 1985 and 1986, the New Orleans Restaurant Association Board of Directors, the American Society of Training and Development, and the Council of Hotel and Restaurant Trainers. Don has been an advisor to Goodwill Industries, the University of New Orleans Hospitality Curriculum, Nichols State University, and the Orleans Parish Economic Development Commission in his effort to provide community service back to his city and state. His most recent love had been volunteering at the Jefferson Parish Public Library on W. Napoleon. Don frequently thanked the Lord for providing him with a fulfilling, exciting life and the compatibility of his and Darlene's families. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life during a visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM with the funeral service to follow at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Jefferson Parish Library through checks made to the "Friends of the Jefferson Public Library", or a library of your choice.
