Doretha Butler Obituary

Doretha Ford Butler departed this life on Monday, September 5, 2016 in Chapel Hill, NC at the age of 82. She was a native and resident of New Orleans, LA. Doretha was a member of Second Baptist Church for over 44 years, where she served in many capacities, which included Mother of Church, Sunday School Teacher and Vacation Bible School. Wife of Huey P. Smith by first marriage and the late Allen Butler by second marriage. Loving mother of Hugh (Giselle) Smith, Patrice Ross, Sherilyn Smith Henry, Acquelyn Donsereaux and the late Huey "June" Smith Jr. Devoted grandmother of Danny, Jr., Dannyell, Toya, Gerald, II, Quiaan, Demond, Iisha, Whitley, Noble, Aydan, and Micah. Daughter of the late Charlie Ford and Lily Mae Bailey. Beloved adopted daughter of the late Adline Heath and Eddie Guilliot; also survived 25 Great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Doretha will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the lives of those she touched. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Second Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service at Second Baptist Church, 2836 Sullen Place New Orleans, LA on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Andre Sigler, officiating. Viewing will be held from 8:00 - 9:50 a.m. ONLY at the above named church. Interment: Westlawn Park Cemetery-Gretna, LA. Arrangements by Davis Mortuary Service, 230 Monroe St. Gretna, LA.
