Dorothy Sanchez Obituary

Dorothy Olga Sanchez 86 years old departed this life on April 17, 2016 she went to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for His Promise of Everlasting Life and to walk hand in hand with her husband Jules on The Shores of Love Eternal. She was born on June 22, 1929 in New Orleans to her adoring parents Sidney and Helen Kornick. She was a wonderful sister to her loving older brothers the late Sidney and Paul Kornick. She was married for 46 years to the love of her life Jules Sanchez, Sr. Until his death they frequently traveled throughout the United States from the East Coast to the West Coast and everywhere in between usually camping along the way, always meeting new friends and acquaintances. They truly had friends all over the US that they had met from their many trips. Once they were gone for 8 weeks when they traveled from New Orleans throughout the Western United States including a 2-week stay in Hawaii, but her favorite trip was the one she always talked about when she and our dad traveled along the Alaskan highway exploring Alaska and having the experience of their lifetime. Besides traveling and exploring The United States, she raised four children, Jules Sanchez, (wife Tina), Glenn Sanchez, (Karen Claverie), Barry Sanchez, (wife Dorothy), and Dorothy Roddy, (husband Joseph). She is the much loved Grandmother to 14 Grandchildren, and the proud Great Grandmother to a whole bevy of Great Grand Children, along with many nieces, nephews and friends galore. Until Hurricane Katrina destroyed her much beloved Arabi in Saint Bernard Parish she was a Faithful Member of St. Louise de Marillac Catholic Church. She was a devoted member of The Arabi Civic Association where she donated both her time and her energy to keeping Arabi Patriotic and Beautiful. She was never one to never let a cause to get in her way of writing letters. She wrote to Senators, Congressmen, Titans of Businesses and even Presidents of The United States - if she needed to get something off her mind, she wrote a letter. She was a wonderful person who was a friend to all, who touched the hearts of people everywhere. In July of 2015 she moved into Bethel Garden Assisted Living and Memory Care in Powder Springs, Ga. where she quickly became a shining light that employees and visitors alike quickly grew to love with all their hearts. Very special thanks to Carrie Collins and all the wonderful staff at Bethel Garden and to her granddaughter Allison Petroski who was always there to take care of her Grandmother, assuring she was getting the best medical care possible, along with Jennifer Brugier and Katie Petroski who also provided their nursing skills, helping keep her comfortable through her last days. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Olga's name to help ease the pain of the residence at Bethel Gardens Assisted Living and Memory Care at 3805 Jackson Way Extension Powder Springs, GA. 30127. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Thursday, April 21st from 11:00AM - 1:00PM, followed by a funeral service in Olga's memory beginning at 1:00PM. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Jules in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. To view and sign the Family Guestbook, please visit www.stbernardmemorial.com.

Aunt Olga was a kind, loving, and giving person. When we were children, she and Uncle Jules always treated my sister, brother and myself like members of the family, so it came as a surprise to me as I grew up that she was not really my aunt but a very good friend of my mother, Adele. Of course, it didn't hurt that her brother, Paul, married my mother's sister, Yvonne. So in a way, we were just one big extended family.
I always admired the energy she put into everything she did and the kindness she showed to everyone she met. As an adult I always enjoyed seeing Aunt Olga and Uncle Jules and catching up on their lives. They were good people whose memories live on in the hearts and minds of all of us who were blessed to know them both. I've no doubt that heaven has welcomed Aunt Olga home with open arms.

I remember meeting Ms. Sanchez she was super kind and warm also very intelligent. Right away she filled the room with stories of her beloved husband and great kids. I knew then why Barry was such a super being with his knowledge of the stars and the skies and what lies beyond. Barry my friend we know where your mom is and with that we praise and give thanks to our ever loving Creator. She will always be with you omnipresent in each of her family members lives. May God send you the girls and your extended family wonderful dreams of Ms. Sanchez hanging out with your dad in paradise. Look forward to them.

I just want to say to her four wonderful children and many grandchildren I have always felt like I have been a part of this family for many years and it was due to Ms. Olga and Mr. Jules welcoming me into it. I loved seeing her at different events she always made me smile. Her and Mr. Jules were great people and I know she is going to be so happy to be with the love of her life finally. She raised 4 wonderful children and they have raised and are raising great families and this is due to the wonderful parents her and Mr. Jules were. I know she will be missed dearly but will always be in all of your hearts forever. You all including myself were blessed to know her. I loved them both.

We were bless to have parents like we had, we had a wonderful father and mother who's creed was the children 1st, but that only lasted until the grandkids came along and We were relegated down a few pegs, but that was okay they had plenty of love to share with everyone one, with grandpa leaving in 1994 that gave Olga plenty of time to spread her love and she loved kids & her grandchildren unconditionally. She was simply a wonderful American, who LOVED HER GOD & FAITH, she loved all her children & grandchildren & great grandchildren, and their spouses she loved her friends, when GOD puts out a call for a True Believer who always gives love each day, Olga's name is going to be on the tip of GOD's Tongue and she will always give with love and a joy in heart because that's the type of beautiful women GOD made 86 years ago and she's walked a righteous loving life. She was my mother and I'm going to miss her dearly she truly was a special person who's whole life revolved around how she could help others. I WILL LOVE YOU MOM NOW AND FOR ALL ETERNITY I LOOK FORWARD TO SITTING WITH YOU, JUST THE TWO OF US BEING HEALED AND LOVING THE BEAUTY THAT IS HEAVEN, she was a wonderful mother who loved her children's spouses as her own. Mom was a beautiful person and Heaven is getting a new member to continuing giving her special brand of sweet sweet love that you only have when you have a direct connection with Our Lord & Savior JESUS CHRIST

Thank you Dorothy for bringing into the world two great men that I have been miraculously friends with for two or three years now, thanks to our mutual love of music and God. It's amazing Dorothy how fantastic those two men of God are and I am blessed for our friendship. On that day in heaven, I am hoping for some real Cajun food and a celebration of our Lord, all together. Praise God. Heaven's angels sing out loud.
