Douglas Lee "Doug" Halprin

1940 - 2023

Douglas "Doug" Lee Halprin, 83, of Metairie, LA., passed away peacefully on December 8, 2023. His valiant battle with cancer in recent years showed his courage in facing life's challenges with a smile; he stayed strong until the end. Doug was born in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1940 and grew up in Paterson, New Jersey. He moved his family to Greater New Orleans in October of 1979 and has been a resident of the city ever since. Doug, a retired building contractor, had a big personality defined by his unique sense of humor. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Mary, and spending time with his family, including his two sons, his grandkids, and his great-grandkids. Doug was a crowd favorite at his local casino, the Treasure Chest Casino in Kenner, LA., where he loved playing video keno and penny slots. He always had a colorful story on hand to tell and could be counted on to be the life of the party. Doug will be dearly missed and always remembered. Douglas Lee Halprin was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley Nochimson and Lester Halprin, sister, Wendy Fastman, and stepmother, Trudy Halprin. Douglas Lee Halprin is survived by his wife, Mary Fuller, sons Bernie Halprin (Gabrielle Halprin) and Steve Halprin (Jessica Fabre), his brother, Michael Halprin, grandchildren, Brad Halprin, Rylee Halprin, Remy Halprin, and Violet Halprin, as well as his great-grandchildren, Ruby Halprin, and Julian Halprin. Please join us in celebrating Doug's extraordinary life on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N.
