Edgar Dixey Obituary

Edgar Bright Dixey Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 3, 2014 next to his wife of 64 years, Josephine Jamison Dixey. Mr. Dixey was born in New Orleans August 13, 1925. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Bright Dixey Sr. and Rita Bentley Dixey, his sisters Diane Dixey Hailey and Dorothy Ann Dixey, and one daughter, DeLane Dixey Taylor. He is survived by his children, Edgar Bright (Rusty) Dixey III, Diane Dixey, Deborah Dixey, Deirdre Dixey Cootes (Randy), Minge Dixey (Tami), Devin Dixey, and Robert Dixey. He was "PawPaw" to numerous grandchildren, as well as two great-grandchildren. Mr. Dixey served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and graduated from Auburn University in Chemical Engineering. It was here that he met his wife, Josephine, and the two began on a path building a family whose bonds are as strong today as ever. After being born and raised in Uptown New Orleans, he moved his family to the Westbank. Here he was a founding member and past President of the Aurora Country Club, where he was an avid tennis player. During the Carnival season, he was a member of the Krewe of Dorians and the Krewe of Olympians. He spent most of his career as the Operations Manager of the Amstar Sugar Refinery in Chalmette, LA. Mr. Dixey was a loving husband and devoted father, and he was very proud to call New Orleans his home. Services will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans on Monday, December 8, 2014 with visitation starting at 10:30am and a service following at noon. A private interment will follow in the historical section of Metairie Cemetery. To view and sign the guest book, visit www.lakelawnmetairie.com.

Bob, Camille, and I will always remember the hospitality and teasing that went on in Perdito key! Camille who was 5 at the time still talks about how much fun he was! What a kind man, who loved kids(even his own). He will be missed

Quick-witted, loved and admired by all who knew him, Uncle Edgar will be greatly missed. I don't know if anyone looked up to him as much as mom did - his younger sister. They are probably catching up in Heaven, perhaps over a bourbon. God Bless the Dixey Family. All my love, Blair

God has just called home one of His angels. Mr. Dixey was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. I met him when I attended one of the Dixey's famous “Over the Wall” parties with his daughter Diane. The house was so full of people, laughter, and noise. I found him alone in the den watching the game, I sat and talked with him. He was so kind and welcoming, I had heard so many good things about him I wanted to get to know this wonderful loving father and husband.

When I was leaving to go home he walked us to the door to say good bye, he gave me a hug and the sweetest kiss on the check. I was so touched. I don't think he knew how that little simple gesture helped a hurting and lonely person that day. That meant so much to me and it's something I will never forget.

Goodbye Mr. Dixey and thank you.
