Edward Broussard Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Edward James Broussard. He peacefully entered into Heaven on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at the age of 91. Edward was born on May 13, 1931, in Beaumont, Texas, to the late Edward Anatole and Lillian (Thiac) Broussard. At the age of 9, his family moved to New Orleans, and then later resided in Harahan for the past 59 years. He attended and graduated from St. Aloysius High School (Brother Martin), Southwestern Louisiana University and Loyola School of Law. He was drafted into the United States Army on July 25, 1957, and was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He was a Medical Supply Specialist (E-4), until he was honorably discharged on July 24, 1959. Edward was a self-employed attorney specializing in the field of title abstracting. He was a devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was Edward, Ed, Eddie, Dad, Daddy, Pop, and Poppy to those who were lucky enough to have known him. But many affectionately just called him "Poppy", and he treated everyone like family or a close friend. He enjoyed reading the newspaper and watching sports, but his greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren, and most recently a great granddaughter. He lived a long, blessed life, and will forever be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his five children, Edward James "Jimmy" Broussard, Jr. (Ella), Robin Constant (Timothy), Mark Broussard (Dawn), Renee' Oatis (Kevin), and Rebecca Harmann (Geoffrey). He is also survived by his sister, Mary Louise Broussard Foss, brothers-in-law, William J. Graner, Jr. (Marilyn) and Paul A. Graner (Darlene Olivier), and sister-in-law Lynne H. Graner. He was the proud "Poppy" to 11 grandchildren: Ryan Oatis, Edward J. Broussard III, Rachel Roberts, Courtney Constant Bowlin (Christopher), Clayton Constant, Adam Broussard, Ashleigh Oatis, Lauren Broussard, Joseph Broussard, Raegan Harmann, Lillian Harmann, and great granddaughter Anastasia Bowlin. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Margaret Graner Broussard, in-laws William and Inez Graner, and brothers-in-law John Eugene Foss III and Thomas J. Graner. Relatives and friends are invited to attend services on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 6425 West Metairie Avenue, Metairie, LA 70003. Visitation will take place from 10:00am-12:00pm, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at noon. Interment will take place following mass at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum, 5454 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124. Funeral services are being coordinated by Greenwood Funeral Home, www.greenwoodfh.com. In lieu of flowers, masses are preferred, or a donation can be made in his name to St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Mr. Broussard. We first met him and his son, Mark, at the courthouse and soon developed a friendship with both of them. We often ran into Mr. Broussard at the grocery and always enjoyed chatting with him. He was a kind man and a devoted father and husband. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

To the family of Mr. Ed Broussard, I am sorry to read of his passing. I knew him from the courthouse and would run across him quite often. He was a very humble person and always the gentlemen. We had many a pleasant discussion while sharing a Hubigs pie from the courthouse snackbar. Often times the topic of discussion was the latest episode of Married with Children. He would laugh and laugh and laugh about that program. May God bless Ed, I know he will be greatly missed.

A beautiful tribute to a special man we all loved. He fought hard and with no complaining until his body finally just couldn't go any longer. He was a true family man who loved his children and grandchildren dearly. A special thank you to his three daughters who tirelessly took loving care of him and never complained. He was the first member of the Graner family I met before marrying into their family and was always the same caring person through the 56 years I knew him. My family and I send our love and prayers to his family during this difficult time.
