Edward Mahne Obituary

Edward Louis Mahne, Sr. passed into his eternal life on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at his Metairie home surrounded by members of his family. He was 78. A lifelong resident of Metairie, Eddie was born on Oct. 23, 1942. He was a graduate of East Jefferson High School, Class of 1962. Before retiring, Eddie worked as a bus driver for Jefferson Parish Public Schools for 25 years. In addition, he was a food broker for many years, and also previously worked for Eastern Airlines. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Mahne Sr. and Blanche Picou Mahne; his brother, Henry Mahne Jr.; and his daughter, Michelle Laux. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Gale Mahne; his sons Edward Mahne Jr. (Tina) and Daniel Mahne; grandchildren Samantha Laux (Harry), Shawn Laux (Hailey), and Nina Mahne; and great-grandchildren Atticus Kohles and Colbie Laux. He also is survived by siblings Robert Mahne, Stanley Mahne (Lola), Carol Meche (Francis), William Mahne (Paula), and Adele Wilson (Bob); and many nieces and nephews. Eddie loved his family above all, yet the word "stranger" simply was not in his vocabulary. You couldn't go anywhere with him without running into someone he knew – or would soon know. Some of Eddie's favorite times came as he traveled with his family on their eagerly anticipated camping trips across the country in the RV, or on return visits to such favorite spots as Walt Disney World. At home, he was an avid Saints fan, often watching games during big barbecues, crawfish boils or fish fries in his meticulously maintained backyard. Eddie's big heart also was reflected in his love of his faith as a devoted parishioner at Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church for more than 50 years. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at the church on Saturday, Feb. 20. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with the Mass starting at noon. Please follow COVID-19 precautions and wear a mask in the church. Eddie's family would like to thank the staff of Concerned Care Home Health and Hospice for their dedicated support and care.

I miss my grandfather. Although he wasn´t great when it came to moving and or walking around, he would still try his best to hug and talk to me, even when he was extremely weak. Rest In Peace Grandpa
