Edward Robin Obituary

Edward "Doogie" Robin Sr. passed away peacefully, while surrounded by loved ones at his home on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at the age of 91. Beloved former husband of the late Doris G. Robin, former companion of Portia C. Roberts and former husband of Thaslia C. Robin. Loving father of Edward "Pete" Robin Jr. (Janice), Chris Robin Sr., Brad Robin Sr. (Debbie), Don Robin Sr. (Kathy), Chad Robin (Jenny), Chantel Robin Viada (Ramon Jr.), Marcela Robin Dardar (Tony), Elizabeth "Lita" Robin Locicero (Nick), Lee Robin (Sonya) and the late Donna Ann Robin. Son of the late John Robin and Helen Couture Robin. Brother of Lorraine Acosta, Phillip "Buddy" Robin, Violet Melerine, Joan Nash, Terry "Corkey" Robin and the late Ronald Robin. Proud grandfather of 25 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Special thanks to Ms. Debra, Barbara Manuel and Jackie Bailey for their devoted care. Edward, lovingly known by those close to him as "Doogie" was born in New Orleans on March 9, 1926. He was a Mason in his beliefs and at an early age Doogie enlisted in the military to serve his country during World War II. He enlisted himself into the United States Navy and sailed aboard the USS Neville (APA - 9) in the Pacific, earning 5 battle stars during his commission. Doogie later was honorably discharged from the United States Navy having served from 1943 - 1946, granting him the honor of being a United States Navy Veteran. Upon returning, Doogie chose St. Bernard Parish to live his entire life and continued to reside in the picturesque bayou community of Yscloskey. He was a well-known and respected figure in St. Bernard Parish who founded a concrete establishment in the southeast region's fisheries. In 1947 and with meager finances, he harvested local waters and established "Robin's Seafood." Approaching 70 years later, his thriving company continues to provide some of the freshest Louisiana oysters cultivated and harvested anywhere in the South. His sons now perpetuate the reputation of Robin's Seafood at the same location in the beautiful, Spanish-moss-adorned Yscloskey bayous, rich in natural resources and rich in heritage. Aside from his many accomplishments and being a busy man, Doogie never made short of the time he made to be with his greatest accomplishment, his family! He, to the very end, would make long road trips to make sure that everybody was taken care of and safe. Doogie was extremely loved, will be terribly missed, but will never ever be forgotten. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. A funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM. He will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery, St. Bernard, LA. To view and sign the Family Guestbook, please visit www.stbernardmemorial.com

To Pete, Janice and all of the Robin family: I am so very sorry for your loss. I grew up in Yscloskey/Shell Beach area and remember Mr. Doogie well. He lived a full and active life and enjoyed life to the fullest. I never saw Mr. Doogie without that big welcoming smile on his face. Such a kind and generous man. May he rest in peace forever.

To the Robin Family. We met Mr. Doogie when our daughter Melody married into the Robin extended family. From that day on, he treated us like one of his own. He was a remarkable man with an infectious smile. He opened his home to us on our visits and could not have been more generous. I am glad that we got to visit him during the last fleet blessing. Even in his weakened state, he mange to smile and shake hands and kiss my wife Cathy. We will miss him, too. GOD bless you, Mr. Doogie. And thanks for your service to our country.

I only knew Doogie for a couple of years, but enjoyed fishing with him very much. My favorite memory is the excitement, big smiles, and joy Doogie expressed on the day we ran from a storm leaving from Bayou Batola just ahead of the lightning. I opened the engine up, and we flew through the bayous and lakes, heeling over hard on tight curves. We just beat the storm back, with the rain beginning just as we pulled under Doogie's house. He was as happy as a kid with a new bike from the race against the storm. I smile every time I remember his face that day. He was a kind man who knew no strangers. Generous, helpful, and always more than happy to share a cup of coffee in the mornings. We swapped a lot of fishing and hunting stories.

Doogie has left the most impressionable impact on so many lives including my own. Such an interesting and knowledgeable story teller. Conversations got better with the "Honey" that he loved so. Comfort to all the loved ones he has left behind. He has left his mark and will be remembered by all. Now he is dancing with Jesus!

I always looked for Doogie at the Islenos Festival, the Blessing, the Oyster Festival and all the other festivities in the Parish. He loved people and they loved him. I will miss his kind hugs and kisses and him calling me "love" or "darling." That's just how he was with everyone. He lived life to the fullest. He was always there for Manny too. Every morning they had their coffee and when Manny would get sick, he was always be there to take care of him. They were best friends and I love him for that. I will miss you my friend!!! And Kenny and I are praying for Brad, Chris and the rest of his children. We love you too!!!
