1949 - 2022

Edward Thomas Williams, age 72, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 in Webster, TX. He was born to the late Edmond Weber and Louise Williams Williams on December 31, 1949 in New Orleans, LA and grew up in Mid City. In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams was also preceded in death by ten siblings. Eddie's work ethic and entrepreneurship was established at the young age of 10, when he started his first business which was a diaper washing service. He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School Class of '68 and shortly after graduating, enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. After an honorable discharge, he began his long work history, beginning as an orderly at Charity Hospital. He then served 34 devoted years with the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) where he was affectionately known as "Junior" and subsequently retired. In between that time he started his own record store on Tulane and Galvez, was a certified locksmith and drove taxis. His passion for driving after retirement continued with New Orleans Tours and led him to obtain a certification to drive cross country with Schneider Trucking Co. Other achievements include a license in real estate appraisal and driving for Enterprise Rental Car. In 2005 after hurricane Katrina, he became a disaster housing inspector for FEMA and then moved to Houston where he drove buses for Houston Independent School District. Also known as "good cooking Ed" some of his many joys in life included coffee, cooking and traveling. He was a self-taught chef in the kitchen and mastered lots of amazing dishes. His travels took him to various places which led him to meeting many people with whom he kept in touch with and talked to frequently. Ed is survived by his two daughters, Nadia Williams and Renetta Smith Townsel; six grandchildren, Trey, Adrianne, Jazper, NyaLynn, Thai and Karlee; and one great-grandson, Elijah. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. His family was his world and he will be remembered as a one of a kind father, a true best friend and a lovable and huggable "Pawpaw." He had an infectious personality and never met a stranger. To know him was to have a friend for life. All are invited to attend the funeral. A Celebration service honoring the life and legacy of the late Mr. Edward Thomas Williams will be held in the Chapel of Charbonnet Labat Glapion Funeral Home, 1615 St. Philip Street, New Orleans, LA 70116 on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 6 pm, Elder K. G. McKnight, Officiating. Dads favorite color was blue, please consider wearing something blue in his honor. A dismissal will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 10 am, followed by interment at Mt. Zion Cemetery, 10867 River Road, Ama, LA 70031. Immediately following the interment, everyone is invited to join the family in fellowship at the Robinson Friloux American Legion Hall Post 509, 10803 River Road, Ama, LA 70031 from 12 noon until 3 pm.
