Edwin Cordilla Obituary

Edwin Anthony Cordilla, at the age of 87, completed his life on May 31, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Eddie was a lifelong resident of the New Orleans area and grew up in the Irish Channel. Son of John Cordilla born in Gibillina Sicily, Italy and Rose Hinyub Cordilla born in New Orleans, La. Survived by his wife of 65 years and lifelong love, Catherine Brandt Cordilla. Eddie or Sonny as some called him, served in the United States Army, retired from Falstaff Brewery. Retired Major, United States Army Reserve. Past Grand Commander and member for 48 years of The International Order of Alhambra, Darro Caravan #29. 40-year-member of the Knights of Columbus. Owner of Sir John's Inn. Affiliated with the Veterans Umpires Association for over 30 years. Survived by 6 children: Germaine Dalo, John Cordilla, Michael Cordilla, Kathleen Barletta, Theresa Cordilla Saacks and Paulette Whitaker. Gaga is survived by 13 grandchildren: Kaitlin Saacks, Michael Saacks, Santino Cordilla Dominic Cordilla, Tommy Cordilla, Joey Cordilla, Penelope Whitaker, Brandt Whitaker, Anthony Pitzer, Lauren Barletta, Joe Barletta, Tony Barletta, Ryan Barletta as well as 4 great-grandchildren, Tommy Cordilla, Eli Cordilla, Courtney Judge and Trinity Pitzer. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Eddie's name to honor his lifelong commitment to help developmentally disabled children to the Order of Alhambra, c/o Robert Stevens, 3716 North Woodlawn Avenue, Metairie, Louisiana 70006. Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at 12:15 pm on Friday June 5 at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans, LA. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am and continue until Mass time. Condolences may be expressed at www.schoenfh.com
