Edwin Palmer Obituary

Edwin Michael Palmer, Jr. on Friday, January 6, 2006. Age 82 years. Husband of the late June Williams Palmer. Father of Edwin M. Palmer III, Melanie Palmer, Mark Palmer, Matt Palmer, and Maureen P. Favret. Father -in-law of Diana Palmer, Leslie Palmer, Susan Palmer and Greg Favret. Brother of Donald Austin Palmer. Grandfather of 13. Graduate of Fortier High School, attended Harvard and LSU, graduated from Tulane . He lettered in baseball at LSU and Tulane. After graduation he signed with the Cleveland Indians and later he played two years with the Detroit Tigers. He was inducted into the Diamond Club of New Orleans Baseball Hall of Fame. When an injury ended his baseball career he started with Graham Paper Company which was managed by his father. Two years later he founded A to Z Specialties which was a branch of Mel Parnell's Specialties. As his business grew he became the largest distributor of paper in the Gulf South. He was President of A to Z Paper Company, A to Z Specialties, Southern Hotel and Restaurant Supply and Louisiana Envelope Company. He was a member of Metairie Country Club, the Horsemen's Benevolent Protective Agency. He received numerous Thoroughbred Breeding Awards and raced his horses across the country. He received the Leading Distributor Award from the American Paper Manufacturers Association. He served in the Navy in the B-12 Unit at Harvard during WWII. He was an avid fisherman, golfer and thoroughbred breeder-owner. He lived by the motto of yesterday is a memory; tomorrow is a mystery; today is the day... so let's go. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass at Pius X Catholic Church, 6666 Spanish Fort Blvd. On Monday, January 9, 2006 at 12:00 NOON. Visitation will be from 10:30 until service time. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Chad Michael Ferrand and Edwin M. Palmer, Jr. to Children's Hospital, 200 Henry Clay Ave., NOLA 70118 preferred. LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME in charge of arrangements.
