COOMES, ELAINE LOUISE (JOHNSON) Elaine Louise (Johnson) Coomes, 88, of Killingworth, wife of the late John H. Coomes, passed away on Saturday, May 30th surrounded by family at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Branford, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Louise (Beals) Johnson. Elaine lived in Killingworth since 1947 and was a member of Killingworth Congregational Church where she was a member of the church’s Senior Club and actively supported the Eddy Shelter by providing baked goods. She was employed at AT&T for twenty-five years and was a lifelong member of the phone company’s Pioneers Club. Elaine is survived by her son, John H. Coomes, Jr. and his wife, Suzanne of Durham; four daughters, Jeanne Cardinal and her husband, Hank Henne of Leesburg, FL, Carla Bogue of Hope Mills, NC, Thelma Coomes of Old Saybrook, and Sandra Soby and her husband, Mark of Higganum; two sisters, Phyllis Cella of Wallingford and Marian Allen of Jackman, ME; four grandchildren, James Wachter (Kim), William Cardinal, Edward Bogue, IV and fiancé, Carmella Lanphear, and Kristen Limkemann (Jeff); four great grandchildren, Mattea Wachter, Marissa Wachter, Chelsea Bogue and A.J. Limkemann; a daughter by heart, Lynn Marcotte of Killingworth; stepgrandsons, Tom Ward and Chris Ward(Sylvia) and several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband and parents, Elaine was predeceased by two brothers, Roy and Donald Johnson; three sisters, Lois Huhla, Betty Helstrom and Judith Mani; three grandchildren, John and Janet Coomes and Vicky Wachter and a son-in-law, Edward Boque, III. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 4th at 10:00 am at Killingworth Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Killingworth. Family and friends may call on Thursday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 am at the church.
