Colonia– Mrs. Eleanor Dougherty, 98
Mrs. Eleanor Dougherty died March 11, 2018 at Brighton Gardens of Edison, NJ. She was born in Jersey City, NJ and lived in Bayonne until moving to Bloomfield, NJ and residing there from 1954 to 2014. Eleanor was a graduate from Holy Family School in Bayonne. She worked for the William H. Connolly Agency in Montclair for 8 years retiring in 1990 as a secretary for what she considered a much more important priority; being with her grand children! Prior to that she worked for Pittsburg Steel and Westinghouse Air Brakes Company as an engineering secretary. Eleanor was proficient in short hand and transcription; on an electric typewriter could type above 100 word per minute. While in NY she worked in the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings and has many fond memories of the city that include a Baby Shower at the Waldorf Astoria. She loved family vacations in Cape Cod and continued her love of New York City throughout her life.
She was a loving, supportive and beloved wife of nearly sixty years, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all. Her love of children will live on with those she cared for.
Mrs. Dougherty is predeceased by her husband Victor Dougherty who March 21, 2014, her mother and father, Patrick and Jennifer Burns, three brothers, Bernard, Frank, Robert Burns, her sister, Edna Matusaitis. She is survived by her son, Robert and his wife, Phyllis Dougherty and two grandsons, Patrick and Ryan Dougherty.
Visitation will take place at the Lehrer - Gibilisco Funeral Home, Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 4 to 8 pm, at 275 West Milton Avenue Rahway NJ.
After the viewing we will gather for refreshments locally.
Interment will be Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Monday, March 26, 2018 at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 1455 Franklin Mills Circle, Philadelphia, PA 19154 www.stjude.org/ or a charity of your choice.
