Elisabeth Mitchell Obituary

Elisabeth "Liz" Chisholm Mitchell, 63, of Gulfport, Mississippi passed away on November 10, 2023 surrounded by many of her favorite people. She was born in Gulfport on March 18, 1960 to Dr. Robert Andrew Mitchell and Claudia Griffith Mitchell and was loved by all of her four older siblings: Blaine, Bob, Lindsey and Celeste. Liz graduated from Gulfport East High School and received her bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Southern Mississippi where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. After graduation she moved to New Orleans where she started her family and career in hospital administration at Meadowcrest Hospital and Tulane University Cancer Center. She later worked for Jesuit High School. Liz was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Robert Andrew Mitchell Jr., and is survived by her two children Mitchell Joshua Bernstein of New Orleans and Rachel Victoria Bernstein of Denver; her three sisters Sarah Blaine Mitchell of New Orleans; Lindsey Mitchell Ladouceur of Abita Springs; and Celeste Mitchell Ogden of Covington, WA; her nieces Gabrielle Bailleux Halprin of New Orleans; Mia Wallin Roberts of Denver; Hadley Caroline Bernstein and Emily Morgen Wallin of Los Angeles, CA; Stephanie Ogden Selensky of Billings, MT; her nephews Sloane Scott Bernstein of Houston, TX; Robert Andrew Ogden of Auburn, WA; great nephew Clay Andrew Roberts of Denver; and great nieces Violet Kinsale Halprin of New Orleans and Matilda Grace Roberts of Denver. Liz was a caring mother and loved being involved in her children's lives throughout their sports and school events. She had a huge heart for animals especially Golden Retrievers and cats, and was always ready to cheer on her favorite football teams whether it was the Saints or Southern Miss. She cared deeply for others and spent many Sundays and Christmas holidays feeding the homeless at St. George's Episcopal Church in New Orleans. Liz had a generous, loving and happy spirit; and everyone who knew her could tell how much love and kindness she had to give. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. A service will be held on January 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Gulfport with a reception afterwards in the Parish Hall. Donations to the American Cancer Society or your local SPCA would be greatly appreciated.

My thoughts are with your family during this difficult time. I have very fond high school memories of sharing beach time with Liz, enjoying the beautiful Mississippi Sound. My husband Steve and I will continue to lift your family up in prayer.
