Elsie Whittenberg Obituary

GATESVILLE Elsie Whittenberg, age 88, of Gatesville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, in a local hospital. Funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, in the Gatesville Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Tom Beaty officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Resthaven Cemetery in Brady, Texas, with the Rev. Greg Fletcher officiating. There will be no set time for visitation. Elsie was born on Sept. 2, 1921, in Hill County, Texas, to the late Upton and Ada Watson Kennedy. She grew up in Hill County and graduated from Abbott High School and then graduated from North Texas University in 1941. She married Glenn Whittenberg on Aug. 24, 1941. She was a teacher and taught in Post, Abbott, Forsan and Gatesville for over 45 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Elsie and her husband were active with the Gatesville R.V. Club. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, on Nov. 24, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Middleton and husband Virgil of Brady; sister Zelda Thompson of Bastrop; two grandsons, Mark Middleton and wife Leslie and Paul Middleton and wife Jennifer; and four great-grandchildren, Keenan, Caitlin, Whitley and Libby. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 2600 E. Main Street, Gatesville, Texas 76528; or Coryell Memorial Hospital Foundation, 1507 West Main Street, Gatesville, Texas 76528.

Very sorry for Mrs. Whittenberg's passing. She was a sweet sweet lady. Her wit and charm taught many of us along the way, more than the Dewey Decimal System ever did....She was my librarian at school.
