Emelda Rita LaBostrie Therence, age 102, passed away on the evening of Tuesday, May 23, 2023. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, sister -in-law, aunt, niece, and friend. Emelda was born in Garyville, Louisiana on November 26, 1920, to the late Morris and Christina Poree LaBostrie of Central, France. She was the eldest of five children Morris LaBostrie Jr., Melvin LaBostrie, Eulalia Miller, and Marion Parent. Emelda always strived to make a difference in the lives of her family and community. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Joseph Therence Sr.; son, John Joseph Therence Jr. survived by Dr. Vernita Therence-Hills; son-in-law, Manual Potlongo, Jr.; and great grandchild, Makayla Potlongo. She is survived by her children Alan Gerard Therence (Melody Therence) and Phyllis Ann Therence-Potlongo; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are all invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 9, 2023, 10:00AM, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1802 Tulane Ave, NOLA.
