Eugene Ellis Sheard

1957 - 2021

Eugene Ellis Sheard entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at the age of 63, at University Medical Center of New Orleans. He was born on May 21, 1957 to the late Porter and Fannie L. Sheard. He was baptized at an early age at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church of New Orleans under the leadership of the late Rev. Welton Washington. He attended George Washington Carver High School. He worked at Avondale Shipyard as a welder and had other various jobs. Eugene enjoyed life and loved to fish, barbecue, work crossword puzzles and second line. Eugene leaves behind his loving daughters, Nekeisha Aych of Georgia and Dawn Walker; three grandchildren, Trevell, Jameal and Chase; his siblings, Leontine Helen Swayne, Josephine Lewis, Robert (Cheryl) Sheard, Charlene and Florina Sheard. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Porter and Fannie Lee Sheard, brother Porter Sheard, Jr., nephew Cornell Sheard, his favorite brothers-in-law Alonzo Swayne and Edward Charles Lewis, Sr. A Funeral Service will be held at D. W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 10:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am with livestreaming set to begin at 9:50 am by visiting www.facebook.com/D.W.RhodesFuneralHome/live. As mandated by the State of Louisiana due to the COVID-19 pandemic, attendance is limited. Everyone is required to adhere to all restrictions. You must wear a face mask at all times and practice social distancing. The funeral service and burial will be restricted to immediate family only. Interment: Providence Park Cemetery.
