Eulalie Schnell Obituary

Eulalie (Lee) Schnell, 92, of New Orleans, passed away on August 12, 2023, in Metairie, LA. Born on March 12, 1931, in New Orleans. Lee is survived by her loving children whom she considered her best accomplishments in life: Thomas Camardi (Ruth), Terry Camardi (Joe), Frederick Schnell (Stephanie), and Stephen Schnell (Christy). She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, her sister Beryl Quinton (Juan) and 2 nephews Vincent and Lance Tividad, and a niece Elizabeth Caruso. Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Schnell, Sr., her brother David Caruso, Jr., her mother Leone Flick, and her father David Caruso, Sr. Lee attended John McDonogh High School graduating in 1947. She dedicated her time to raising her children. Later she enjoyed her career at the VA hospital and as a Volunteer Coordinator at East Jeff. Hospital. Lee had a tremendous love for her Catholic Church and attended Sacred Heart Church on Canal Street and St. Dominic Church. Her church attendance and Love of Jesus gave her Joy until the very end of her life when Jesus came to take her home where she had many loved ones waiting for her. At 92 she was still enjoying her fiercely independent lifestyle and still managed to drive herself to church if no one was around to bring her. Yes, we heard many stories from neighbors about how a 92-year-old drives, but she was not giving up those car keys. Some of you know what we are talking about. Lee had a profound love for the City of New Orleans and the French Quarter where she volunteered as a Tour Guide and loved playing the part of Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau, and other famous NOLA characters at yearly French Quarter events. Lee enjoyed attending the Jazz & Heritage Festival, French Quarter Festival, and weekly concerts at Botanical Gardens in City Park. She also volunteered as a Docent at The New Orleans Museum of Art. Lee was a real New Orleans Lady. Lee will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her Love for New Orleans and its music will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate to have crossed paths with her. Please join us in remembering and celebrating Lee's life on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM with Mass in the chapel at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. My family and I have such good memories of being with Lee and her family as we all sat together for years in the front row to see the Broadway plays. May Lee rest in peace with Our Lord. Do count on our thoughts and prayers.
