Eunice Totten Obituary

TOTTEN Eunice M. Totten 1914-2010 Eunice M. Totten, a New Orleans native and resident of Metairie for over 40 years, died on November 9, 2010 in Pensacola, FL. She lived a full, active and happy 96 year life. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Lilly and William Millet and a sister, Leah. She retired from civil service in 1977 as "Assistant Chief of Staff for Financial Management with the Naval Support Activity" in Algiers after 35 years of meritorious service with the US Navy. Beginning in 1942, she raised 15 grades from mail and record clerk to financial manager and advisor to the Navy with a rank equivalent to that of a Lieutenant Commander. She was awarded numerous awards and received high honors for her "exceptional accomplishments". After retirement she was able to live her dreams of traveling, volunteering, and playing golf. In addition, she learned to line dance and bowl and participated in these activities into her late 80's and early 90's. She volunteered for the King Tut exhibit at NOMA. When they realized the background she had in finance, she was hired full time! It was said at her retirement that "people who knew and respected Mrs. Totten as a patriot, ambassador of good will in New Orleans, and a financial management expert, reluctantly said farewell to her". Surviving her are her "adopted" niece and nephews JoAnn, Brian and Keith Hart. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Hope Mausoleum, 4841 Canal St., New Orleans, LA. HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL, in Pensacola, FL, is in charge of arrangements. With a tremendous amount of love and affection, we say farewell also. Farewell to a woman we have loved, cherished and admired for all of our lives.
