Floyd Laurent Obituary

Floyd Leonard Laurent, 69, of Slidell, Louisiana was born January 21, 1951 and entered into eternal rest on Sunday November 8, 2020. He is the son of the late Norvell Michael Laurent, Sr. and Margaret Narcisse Laurent of Slidell, and is preceded in death by his brothers, Norvell Michael Laurent, Jr. and Cyril Joseph Laurent. Floyd is survived by his siblings, Daniel Peter Laurant (Gwen), Reginald James Laurent, Margaret "Mel" Laurent, and Johanna Hope Laurant. Floyd leaves behind his daughter, Rebekah Dale Laurent Faulkner (Cory), her mother, Dianna Vogel Laurent, and two grandchildren, Abraham and Josephine Faulkner. Floyd will be lovingly remembered by Dr. Leith Anne Daigle, his life partner of nearly thirty (30) years, and by his honorary family – his daughter Aslyn Daigle Ellis (Brandon) and granddaughters Hannah and Shelby Ellis. Floyd loved his family. Born a sickly child, Floyd was not expected to live very many years after birth. Through his deep and abiding faith, unconditional love, and the wonders of modern medicine, however, Floyd lived a full life. He looked all the adversities of bad health squarely in the eye, and overcame each and every associated medical challenge. Floyd persevered and embodied true positivity. He actually practiced genuine humility and gratitude. Floyd graduated from Slidell High School in 1969 and attended both Delgado Community College and Southeastern University before pursuing a career in the air condition/refrigeration industry and home appliance repair market. Floyd's natural aptitude for fixing things and his "gift of gab" led him to employment with Sears, Roebuck & Company for many years. Even after leaving Sears, Floyd owned appliance repair shops in Ponchatoula and Mandeville. His final job was under FEMA after Hurricane Katrina with the companies CM Martin, & Deljen. Floyd took delight in helping so many people during that difficult time. Floyd's hobbies and passions included conservation, keeping abreast with local, national, and worldwide current events, going to flea markets and festivals, cookouts around the backyard pool, bike riding, cooking, crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy on TV, as well as collecting art, coins, glassware, antique books, and classic stories (which he could recite). Most of all, Floyd enjoyed connecting with and creating memorable moments with family, friends, and even strangers in the community. As a man who touted that he was "born on borrowed time," Floyd never missed an opportunity to give his time, talents and wisdom humbly to the world. He was particularly fond of helping the elderly, children, and animals. He enjoyed the lessons others could teach him. Floyd played a huge role in caring for Carol Daigle, Leith's mother, during her cancer battle and later years, by providing Carol with home-cooked food, transportation, or just a good laugh. He delighted in his grandchildren by keeping up with and participating in many of their activities, having never imagined he would live to see such a generational legacy. He routinely adopted a border collie mix from the animal shelter, ultimately having three dogs named Sheba in his lifetime. Whether it was thrift store treasure, broken gadgets, discarded dogs, or marginalized people, Floyd truly saw the potential in all things. More importantly, he took the initiative and actions to help improve the world by reflecting God's light through service to others, and truly answering Jesus' call to "Love one another." Floyd's family and friends give thanks for the many wonderful memories, moving inspiration, and cherish lessons of Floyd, all of which they hold dearly. A memorial funeral service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 1534 7th Street, in Slidell, Louisiana on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., with immediate family gathering first at 10:15 a.m. Due to the CDC Covid-19 Guidance, a maximum of seventy-five (75) people will be allowed on the premises of Christ Episcopal Church, mask-wearing will be required, and social distancing will be maintained. Dear Lief and family .I am so sorry, I am just today learning of Floyd’s passing from this life. Jim and I send our most sincere sympathy to your families.I had the great pleasure of doing a little painting job at their home, and what made it such a pleasure was Floyd and his record player! Floyd had an amazing collection of vinyl and he asked me what I’d like to listen to while I worked out on the front door iron work. I left the choice up to him and I spent the day grooving and singing to his music. At one point he and Lief did a little dance. It was so evident the deep love and enjoyment these two people shared for each other and life. The joy I felt that day, the delight in life they both shared, was contagious. Floyd you were the coolest cat. thank you for the music and smiles you brought to my day.
