Frances Ferran Obituary

FERRAN Frances Burst Ferran, born on October 27, 1927, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2009. Frances was a life-long resident of New Orleans, LA. She was married 59 years to her first love Calvin John Ferran, and was the loving mother of Sheila Ferran, Rene Ferran and his wife Rebecca, and Anne Ferran Hardie and her husband Fred. She was a loving grandmother to 7 grandchildren and their spouses: Claire ZouZou Cardona; Calvin Hardie; Charles Hardie and his wife Jamie; Jason Hardie and his wife Kerri; Jeanne Ferran Burgin and her husband Ben; Max Ferran and his wife Megan; and 2 step-grandchildren, Haas and Elizabeth Flauss. She was the proud great-grandmother of four, with four on the way. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Joyce Merilh and her husband Ed, and her sister-in-law Louise Kettner, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandson Nicholas Ferran, her parents Frances Golay Burst and Simon Burst, her siblings Sylvia Cranmer, Simon Burst Jr, and Elroy Burst. Frances was a founding member and past president of The Ivy Garden Guild. She was also past president of the Ladies Auxillary of the Home Builder's Association of Greater New Orleans. She encouraged her children to follow their own path, and was an inspiration to her grandchildren. She had a wonderful life, and her family will remember the happy times spent with her at the summer home in Grand Isle. Frances will be also be sadly missed by her closest friends, with whom she shared many candlelight dinners. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to caregivers Sherlene Robinson, Simone Hart and Anna Marshall. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. Visitation is on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service. She was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church. Monsignor Andrew C. Taormina and Deacon Steve Ferran will officiate. Masses are preferred. It will be the little things that you remember, the quiet moments, the smiles, the laughter. And although it may seem hard now, it will be the memories that help to push the pain away and bring smiles back again. I have many happy memories of Aunt Frances, and she will be missed.
