Frank Assunto Obituary

ASSUNTO Frank Assunto, Jr. passed away with dignity and grace at Canon Hospice on Friday, August 10, 2007. Frank was born December 25, 1955 to Frank and Joan Assunto in Las Vegas, NV. His father, Frank Assunto, Sr. was leader of the world famous Dukes of Dixieland and Frank Jr. became a well loved local musician headlining the Dukes, the Raffey's and Force of Habit. A brilliant musician and lyricist, Frank leaves well over 400 songs to his legacy and instilled the same passion for music in his three children. Frank was the proud father of Nicholas A., Lexie M. and Frank, III. He leaves behind his brothers Deano and Joseph, as well as his loving sister, Gina. Frank's cousins Jan and Angela will miss him, as well as his cousin Mike Assunto who was more like a brother to Frank. Many great local musicians, as well as over 400 people came out for Frank's tribute concert on August 5, where Frank's wishes were fulfilled with food, music and friends. The family would like to send their thanks to all those who showed their support as well as the wonderful people who made it possible. In keeping with his wishes, there was no public service, just a small private family gathering. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Canon Hospice, 1221 Clearview Pkwy., Metairie, LA. They took incredible tender care of Frank during his final months and the family is eternally grateful.

We have known Frank for a long time even though we have not seen him in years. Frank was a good friend. I know he will be missed not only by family but all his friends. Frank, you brought alot of joy to the people you met. Keep the music going up there in heaven for when the rest of us come up to join.

I think of Frank everyday . His band and music was a major part of my growing up in the New Orleans scene. Frank will live in our hearts, because i know everyone out there that knew him has some wonderful story that comes to mind . He loved his children dearly. He loved making music and he loved people. God Bless Frank and all of his family and extended family for their love and support they gave to him. I can just imagine the music your making in Heaven.

Even now, I can still hear Frank's great laugh... it always made me smile. So many fond memories of spending time with the band and going to the shows wherever they played. I feel like I've known Frank forever, since he was about 19 I think. When I last spoke to Frank this summer, he spoke so proudly of his children and all that they've become. A music man of heart we will forever remember with love. God bless you in heaven Frank.
with love,
Debbie

I am very saddened to hear of Franks death. I dated Frank briefly in the 80's. He was a good person and a good father. God bless him and his family.

I first met Frank as a fan when Glenn would take me to the gigs to get me out of the house. Then he, Cindy and Nicky became our neighbors, then we became family. Frank, Cindy, Nicky, Lexie, Frankie, Sarah and myself were blessed to have been brought together and to share our lives. Frank was always there when I needed that "male" influence with a very strong willed little girl. Sarah and I will always cherish those years we all lived together on Diane Place. God grant you peace Frank, you deserve it.

Love, SuSu and Sarah Patricia

Frank was one of those people who make life a little more enjoyable. One couldn't help but to have fun while in his company. Thanks to many years of shared laughs...his memory will live on in those who were fortunate enough to call him their friend. I am only one of many...and I'm thankful for the opportunity.
