G. Porteous Obituary

G. Thomas Porteous Jr. passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2021 surrounded by his loving children. Beloved husband of the late Carmella G. Porteous. Loving father of Michael Patrick Porteous (Sarah), Timothy Alexander Porteous (Tricia), Thomas Anthony Porteous (Aimee), and Catherine Porteous Martiny (Ryan). Grandfather of Mia, Annabel, Lucille, Emma, Julia, Miles, Jack, Gabriel and Maxwell. Son of the late Wyand Farmer Porteous. Tom was a native of New Orleans and longtime resident of Metairie. He graduated from Cor Jesu High School, Louisiana State University and Louisiana State University Law School. He was an Assistant District Attorney for the 24th JDC. He was elected to the State bench in 1984 and appointed to the Federal bench in 1994. Tom was a brilliant jurist who was respected throughout the legal community and beyond, as well as a best friend and role model to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and celebrating life with family and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Clement Of Rome, 4317 Richland Avenue, Metairie, on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 12:00 noon. Visitation will begin in church at 10:30 in the morning. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to Sisters Servants of Mary, 5001 Perlita Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70122. Tom was one of my neighbors as well as a good friend. My wife Ann and I have fond memories of many pleasant moments spent with Tom and his wife Mel. Both were beautiful individuals. May God bless, Tom. Your keen wit and true friendship will be sorely missed.
