Gary Fahrner Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gary Paul Fahrner, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a man of many talents. Gary departed this world on December 3rd, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, leaving behind a legacy that will endure in the memories of his loved ones.

Gary, born on April 1, 1953, was the eldest child of Dorothy Jeanne Sharpe and Paul Walter Fahrner. From his early years, it was evident that he possessed a special aptitude for using tools and fixing things. This talent was first noticed at the age of two when he "assisted" his father in assembling a swing set, following behind and loosening the bolts his father had just tightened.

Gary’s talent for fixing things was matched by his work ethic. He worked throughout his time in school and his diverse early career spanned fixing cars, building houses, plumbing, woodworking, cement work, fixing tractors, and pool building. After joining the National Guard fresh out of school, Gary eventually had the opportunity to work full time for the Guard as a Helicopter Mechanic. His career culminated as an Electrical Supervisor at the Salt Lake City airport, where he worked his way up as an Electrician to lead a team of skilled electricians during his 20 years of service.

Gary was more than just a professional; he was a great man who was devoted to his family. On April 11, 1975, he married his sweetheart, Barbara, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they raised four sons and a daughter. He was a light in the lives of his 14 grandchildren and other children who called him Grandpa.

A patriot at heart, Gary bravely served his country and his community, giving his time and many talents freely to those who needed a helping hand. His passing has created a gaping hole in the lives of his family, friends, and neighbors, that can never be filled.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, and his five children – Jared (Stephanie), Ben (Chasta), Cody (Jessica), Tim (Jenny), and Mikaela (Tom Hansen). He is also survived by his sisters, Heidi Lewis, and Leila Malcom (Dave), brother Henry (Valerie), and his 14 cherished grandchildren.

Rest in peace, Gary Paul Fahrner, until we meet again---we love you.

Gary had the kindest heart, the best laugh and would do anything for anyone. He just always radiated joy. If he didn't know how to do a task, he would try and soon he would know and be able to finish it. The world would be a much better place if we had more Gary Fahrners. Go Find Jim, Gary..you both need to catch up on things. Love you! Thanks for all you did for me. You truly are the best, just like Jim!! I have found it is hard to find good handymen and now we lost another one! Hugs Candy Turnbull
