It was your birthday George, and I'm sad that you were not with us to celebrate it. You have been with me since the day I was born, and with me till the day you died. You were my over protective older brother who was my cousin. Lucky for me, you had no sisters. You have been through a life time of pain and sorrow with me as well as so much happiness, and now you are now with others we both loved. We lived so much of life together growing up, and I could not begin to sum up our childhood and life as adults as loved ones. Words could not describe how I feel. You spent even more time with me in the end to prepare me in an amazing way. I miss and love you.

My father, Joe Clayton, has been George's friend for several years. He was always very fond of him and was sad to hear of his passing. I only recently learned of the closeness of their friendship and greatly appreciate George's support of my father during my family's difficult times. I am thankful to have gotten to know him better prior to his death. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Please know that George will be missed by our entire family.

To all the ACKELS:

My heart was broken, when I did receive a call saying "my big cousin had died." I can't imagine life without my GEORGIE!! You all's grandfather, BIG GEORGE told me to call you all's father that -- when we were growing up.

My heart is full of sorrow for you all & I pray that one day life will be better. Georgie loved life & treated me with respect always. Even though he called me: DA WIFE or DA COUSIN!!

God bless you all & God speed!!

Rest in peace and happiness, George. He often called himself the most misunderstood man in all of New Orleans, but I think we all understood how fun-loving, gregarious and what a family man he was. You'll be missed, and condolences to the Ackel Family.

My deepest condolences to the extended Ackel family. George was always interesting and never failed to make me shake my head and say " Oh, George!". He was colorful, a bull in a china shop and I will miss him. He never met a stranger, was confident everyone wanted to be him and lived life large. May he rest in peace and may God have mercy on his soul.

I can truely say it was a pleasure knowing George. Steve and I will miss him dearly. I will never forget him being there for me when Steve was so sick. Yes, he did have a big heart and a bigger since of humor. He never held back of what was on his mind whether you wanted to hear it or not. That was George, the George we loved and still love so very much. We had some great times with him, never boring. He knew how to make you laugh. Adam, I will always remember your election day....what he put me up to, we had so much fun. I would have not wanted to do anything different that day. Well, maybe sleep at 3:30am. I admired George, I admired how he loved his children and would bend over backwards for ya'll. He had so much love in that big heart. To my Ackel family...we love all of you, lets stay together and close.
All my Love,
Ree Ree and Steve Nuccio

My deepest sympathy’s going to the family and friends of “Big George”. No one could enter or leave a room like him; he was truly larger than life. Their will be no other like him. He was always a true friend to my father and was there for him in his final days. He also was taken away from us way too early in life. His legacy will be his amazing children and grandchildren. Take comfort that he now has a great wing man to run with him in heaven.
