George Carroll Obituary

George Vernell Carroll was born on July 29, 1945 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the union of James Carroll Sr. and Mazie Westry Carroll. George was the youngest of his siblings and had three brothers: James Jr. and Morris Carroll, a half-brother, James Cleo Dean, and three sisters: Julia Inez, Annie Lee and Emma Lee Carroll. George was affectionately called "Buthy" by his family. George was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. He was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1969 and was stationed with the 32nd Signal Battalion in Germany. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his service. Upon being honorably discharged in 1970, George moved to Washington, DC and resided there for just over 50 years until his death. While in D.C., George worked as a bus driver for the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority for ten years. He also worked as a maintenance repair service man for several years at various apartment and condominium buildings. George died at his home in D.C. on March 22, 2021. George is survived by his devoted cousin Odessa Skinner, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. George is preceded in death by his parents: James Carroll Sr. and Mazie Westry-Carroll; his sisters: Emma Lee Carroll-James, Annie Lee Carroll-Breaux, Julia Inez Carroll-Woods; and his brothers: James Cleo Dean, James Carroll, Jr. and Morris Carroll.
