George Emrick Obituary

George W Emrick was born in Cumberland, MD, September 16th, 1934 and died after a brief illness on March 19th, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nita P Emrick of Metairie, LA, his daughter Frances Rogers of Clermont, FL and three grandsons, Joshua Rumbel, Glenn Rogers and Aaron Rogers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cletis and Effie Emrick and two brothers, Charles and Robert Emrick. George was an entertainer in Vaudeville before being drafted into the service, where he served as a paratrooper during the Korean conflict. Upon returning home, he knew he wanted to go into sales and stated that "no other industry gives a person more opportunity to develop and grow. " In 1968 he became an insurance agent then a General Agent for Pan American Life in 1971 and National Life of Vermont in 1980. His agency philosophy was "work together in creating a positive atmosphere that leads itself to a team effort." He served in various positions including president on numerous industry association boards, including the New Orleans Health Underwriters Association, the New Orleans Life Underwriters Association, the General Agents and Managers Association, the Financial Planners, the Sales and Marketing Executives of New Orleans and the National Association of Health Underwriters where he received their highest prestigious award in 1990. In addition, he served on the Insurance Commissioner's Advisory Committee. He was involved throughout the community and served as chairman of the Touchdown Club in New Orleans, an Elder in-his church, executive committee member of the Federation of Churches, on the Board of Big Brothers and was a Free Mason. George also taught many youth to read for an organization called Operation Mainstream. George will be remembered for his loving and caring smile, his classy dress and his impromptu magic tricks. He was a member of Fellowship Believers Church in Metairie. No service is scheduled at this time. George will be greatly missed. We annually visited New Orleans and were always greeted with a smile, a laugh and a ride from the airport to the Hotel.
We'll miss his companionship and our dinners. Especially the charbroiled oysters at Drago's and Acme and beignets at Cafe Du Monde
Our NOLA trips will always be less fulfilling.
George, God Bless you, Rest in peace and thank you for the joy you gave us.
Love Jim & Sharon
