George Edward Riviere Jr.

RIVIERE George Edward Riviere, Jr., of Metairie, LA, passed away peacefully following a brief illness on Saturday, March 6, 2010, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was 83. Born to the late George E. Riviere, Sr. and Elise Marie Reggio, he was raised in New Orleans, graduating from S.J. Peters H.S. and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944, where he proudly served our country in the Pacific. He remained active in the U.S.N.R. for 43 years until his retirement as Command Master Chief, Special Boat Unit 22, New Orleans, LA. Survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lorraine Bayard Riviere; sister Delores R. Kisner; sons Glenn E. Riviere (Debbie), Bruce G. Riviere, (Angel); daughters Denise R. McCarthy (Mike) and Jeannine R. Lemoine; grandchildren Glenn Jr., Angele, Anthony and Andrew Riviere, Patrick and Melissa McCarthy, Jimmy and George Lemoine; Great-grandchildren Justin Riviere, Arron Donarski, Anthony McCarthy, Jeremy Forvendel, Allyssa Lemoine, Adrian and Phillip Griffith; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Donald J. Riviere, Sr., NOFD (Ret), and sister Audrey R. Slonski of New London, Connecticut. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held from 8:30 AM until time of Mass. Interment will follow in Lake lawn Park Mausoleum.
