George Vulevich Jr. Obituary

In loving memory of George Joseph Vulevich Jr., a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who peacefully departed this world on November 19, 2023, at the age of 75, surrounded by his loving family. George was born on September 28, 1948, to the late George Sr. and Evelyn Wehl Vulevich. George grew up in New Orleans and attended Mater Dolorosa Grammar School, followed by De La Salle High School and then graduated from Nicholls State University with a Bachelor's degree in Business. For over five decades, he shared an unwavering bond with his wife, Bay Mary Vulevich, celebrating 53 years of marriage. George was a proud father to five daughters and one son: Valerie V. Howat (Chip), Jennifer Vulevich, Eugenie Vulevich, Meredith V. Hornsby (Charlie), George Vulevich III (Liz) and Adair V. Moseley (Marsh). His legacy extends to 10 (soon to be 11) beautiful grandchildren who were the joy of his later years: Olivia, Harrison, Emery, Pearl, Miles, George IV, Lucy, Wyatt, Liam and Shelley. He is also survived by his sister, Gayle V. Bordes (Gary) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Beyond his role as a family man, George was a businessman, dedicating over 40 years to his car business, Dixieland Auto Sales, on Canal Street in New Orleans. He was also a benefactor and lifetime member of the NOAC and a well-known pillar at other local establishments, including Mandina's and Ye Olde College Inn. A warm and thoughtful soul, he loved everyone he met and never met a stranger. George also had a passion for music that was a defining aspect throughout his life. Whether it was family celebrations, the vibrant atmosphere of local establishments, or the camaraderie of local fundraisers and events, he captivated everyone with his soulful melodies on his guitar, piano, and the warmth of his voice. His love for entertaining created an atmosphere of joy and togetherness that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for the warmth and liveliness he brought to every occasion. In the embrace of his family, George found peace in his final moments, leaving behind a legacy and memories of love, music and laughter. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate and remember a life well-lived and the enduring impact he has had on all who had the privilege of sharing in his journey. Family and friends are invited to attend a Visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 1230 S. Carrollton Ave. New Orleans, LA 70118, followed by a Mass at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be at a later date. For condolences, visit www.tharpcares.com.

Mister George was like a second Dad to me. I will forever remember him entertaining us on the piano with Dipper by his side. Such a kind a gentle soul. I think about you all daily and I think about him and your family daily in my prayers.

George was a prince of a man. I had a locker next to him for over a decade at the NOAC, and he was there every night of the week it seemed. He was charming, friendly, and warm-- a consummate sweetheart and a good man who would even give me good advice when I needed it. I always loved talking to him, and I would see him in the bar afterwards chatting and carrying on with others. He reminded me of Dean Martin or Frank Sinatra: handsome, easy, with a great singing and speaking voice. When I think back on the Golden NOAC days he is always part of what was grand about the club. I truly miss him. He was one of the old guard, and his absence was and still is noticed, and the club was never the same without him. His passing reminds me of The old Willie Nelson/Ray Charles song "Seven Spanish Angels", listen to it and you'll hear what I mean. I stand on the wall of time in history and honor your father as he steps from this life onto the next adventure and the undiscovered country.

Dear Bay,
My sincere condolences on George´s passing
I tried to get into the Church for the visitation, but I ran out of time in the long line. What a tribute to George that so many showed up today!
I will cherish my memories of performing at Andrea´s Capri Blu Lounge and inviting George to sing and play a few songs. He really loved to perform those good old New Orleans songs.
Peace

George and I were best friends growing up on Plum St. one half a block from Williams Snow Ball Stand. We shared many a summer evening with a nickel snowball. As we grew older and time passed we went our separate ways but the memories and the friendship we shared will live forever. He was a good man and lived a good life and I shall miss him. God bless you, George and your entire family.

George had the ability to make everyone feel valued and understood. He valued his connections and his memory will be long lasting. George's boundless love and support for his family was obvious. He was a committed father and all could see his obvious affection for his children and grandchildren. I am certain that he left an indelible mark on their hearts. George and Bay's parental style provided a compass and source of strength that will enable their children to navigate life's journey with resilience and grace. George left too soon, but let's carry on the spirit of connection and understanding that he effortlessly cultivated. Onward, Governor, your legacy lives on in the hearts you touched and the bonds you created.
