Jerry Speegle, age 72, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Marie Speegle, and by his brother Bill Speegle. He is survived by his true love, wife, and best friend, Sue Hammock Speegle, by his beautiful daughter Vera Alyssia, step-daughter Katherine Moreno, his sisters Jacquelyn Cross and Kay Brookshire, a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and other relatives, and a widely diverse group of friends both two- and four-legged. His life included many chapters; a commercial hard hat diver, quality control super at Jax Brewery, QC at the city of New Orleans, owner of Blooming Gardens Landscape and Tropical Reflections Southeast Asia Importers; and, after retirement, a personal pet care exerciser and trainer. He was a long-term resident and character of the French Quarter. Jerry loved all sports but his favorites were the New Orleans Saints and the San Francisco Giants. We will miss his raves! He was gregarious, happy and never met a stranger. Jerry loved to travel and was a foodie, wine connoisseur and music lover who lived life fully and the way he wanted to. Special thanks to Alan Lacoste, MD, Natasha Lacoste, John Spuzzillo, Jay Holland, Karen Blessey, MD, the Oncology Department of Ochsner, Jim Jones, MD and the Medical Staff at Ochsner Baptist ICU.A Celebration of his Life will be held August 25, 2016 from 6-9 pm at Rosy's Jazz Hall, 500 Valence located at Tchoupitoulas and Valence Street. Family and friends are invited to share memories, laughter and tears. For several years, Jerry has sponsored a child in Indonesia, Kadek, to attend school. Sue we were sadden when we heard about Jerry's cancer and passing so soon. He will be greatly missed with his funny comments, smiling face and calling for his cats. He has left us way too soon. You and the family we send our deepest Sympathy, prayers which we have been lifting him up at Mass each morning with Carol. Big hugs and talk soon.

I was so very shocked to read the notice about Jerry's death this morning. Jerry and my first husband, Bill Kirby, and I were close friends for many years while living in the Quarter and afterwards too. I always welcomed Jerry's genuine, beautiful Smile and Hug throughout the years. I absolutely was always happy and smiling while in his company. I will keep Jerry and all of his family in my prayers.
With Love, Candy (Kirby) Cranch
