Gilbert "Pookie" Lewis III

Gilbert "Pookie" Lewis, III passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at the age of 49. Beloved son of the late Gilbert, Jr. and Jean Alfreda Champagne Lewis. Husband of Natalie Masters Lewis. Father of Nathaniel Dyson, Blaine (Europe), Blake and Devin Lewis and Arielle Marie Barnes. Brother of Gilda Davis, the late Consuella "Connie" Lewis and Don Lynn Lear. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildren, other relatives and friends. Gilbert was raised in the 6th Ward of New Orleans and was a graduate of Warren Easton High School. He resided in the 7th ward with his wife and family and was employed at Churchill Downs as truck driver, where he emphasized a strong work ethic. He was passionate about spending time with his family and sharing his great cooking, grilling and boiling (seafood) skills. Relatives and friends; Pastor and members of Household of Faith Family Worship Church; employees of Churchill Downs are invited to attend to attend the funeral. A Celebration service honoring the life and legacy of the late Mr. Gilbert "Pookie" Lewis, III will be held at Household of Faith Family Worship Church, 9300 I-10 Service Road, New Orleans, LA 70127 on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 10 am, Pastor Antoine Barriere, Officiating. Interment: St. Louis No. 3 Cemetery, 3421 Esplanade Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70119. Visitation 9 am in the church. Due to COVID variants, face mask and social distancing encouraged.
