Gloria Chatelain Obituary

Chatelain Gloria (Hurst) Chatelain was born in New Orleans on November 27, 1923, and passed away peacefully on June 4, 2016, surrounded by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lubin and Elsie (Major) Hurst; her husband of 39 years, B.J. "Chuck" Chatelain; brother, Major Lubin Hurst; and nephew, Greg Cassagne. She is survived by her sister, Shirley (Hurst) Cassagne, nieces and nephews: Kenneth Hurst, Randall Hurst, Sheryl Hurst, Sheila (Hurst) Bade, Leila (Hurst) Coffey, Janet (Cassagne) Maffey, Lisa (Cassagne) Hugus, Kathy (Cassagne) Ashley and her great nieces and nephews. Gloria, affectionately known as "Glo," grew up in the Bayou St. John area of New Orleans. After their marriage, Chuck and Glo moved to Gretna, Louisiana. She was a devoted wife who had a passion for travel, art, dance and friendship. Glo lived and loved life and was cherished by all she knew. She touched so many people with her infectious smile that immediately made everyone feel at home. Aunt Glo, we will sadly miss you. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at 1:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 11:00AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org.
