Gregory Ciolino Obituary

On March 7, 2019, surrounded by his loving family, Gregory Joseph Ciolino passed from this life to the next at the age of 64. Beloved son of Dr. Vincent Ciolino and the late Patricia Ciolino, Greg married his high school sweetheart, Iris Patterson, and their joyful marriage of 44 years produced three beautiful children: Brandon (Kristina Fuenzalida), Lauren and Katelyn. He is also survived by his brothers Rick and Douglas, and his sisters Patricia Scheffler (Steve), Susan Redmond and Karen Berthelot (Mel). He is also remembered with love by his mother-in- law Monna Hayden (Buddy) and sister-in-law Ginny Paisant (Miles), as well as by 18 nieces and nephews. Greg actively lived his Catholic faith in both his personal life and his work life. A graduate of Jesuit High School and Loyola University, he began working for his uncle in the pharmacy business while still in high school, and continued in the field in his adult life. He worked for B & B Pharmacy, and then in 1997, he became employed by his uncle Felix Ciolino at C's Discount Pharmacy, which continued for the next 15 years. In 2012 he was hired by Majoria Drugs and worked there until his health declined. His strong work ethic, professionalism and customer service were known throughout the Metairie area, and many loyal customers followed him. Greg's loves were his family and close friends, and with them he enjoyed sharing many trips to the Florida beaches, the movies, history books, and a good bottle of wine. A devoted father, he was especially close to his best friend and wife, Iris, with whom he shared everything. He died the way he lived, on his own terms, with dignity and courage, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019 at St. Ann Church and Shrine, 4940 Meadowdale St., Metairie, LA 70006. Visitation starts at 9:30 a.m. and is followed by a Mass at 11:30 a.m. Private interment will be at Lake Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network www.pancan.org/donate. Arrangements entrusted to the Neptune Society of New Orleans.

Greg was by far one of the nicest and kindest people I ever had the honor of knowing. I knew Greg since he started working at Ciolino's Pharmacy for all those years. Greg was always so willing to help anyone he knew and he always had a smile on his face. I was so sad when I went to Majoria's and learned that he had passed. I will always hold a special place in my heart for Greg Ciolino. May he rest in peace.

Prayers and Love for Greg, and his family. He always greeted my parents and I, with a smile and a kind word, in C's. Helpful, no matter the request.
Greg new I had delicate skin, searched out cocoa butter, the old fashion kind for me. Funny little joke, I started calling him Cocoa Butter, for years. We would just laugh.
Greg was, The Best. I will miss his kindness and professionalism. He was One in a Million.

Iris, Ricky and your entire family: My heart just about stopped when I learned about Greg's death. I have no words to express my feelings, but I do know, as well as all of you do,that Greg was one of the finest individuals that I had the privilege to call my friend. Greg was and is the true meaning of friendship going back 40+years. I never forgot his kindness, honestly, caring, unbelievable sense of humor, and his love for his family, and his complete love and adoration for you, Iris. We had a blast working together, fond memories, and I am honored that I was just a small part of your lives. I saw and talked with Greg after our days at Steak & Ale while Greg was at C's. I will always treasure our friendship. Please know that y'all are in my heart and prayers. Please take care, Terri Burke

We met Greg as customers of C's Pharmacy, and later followed him to Majoria's. He was a unique person, always remembering us with kind greetings and assistance. Greg always had time to chat and ask about our health. With his kindness he made a little corner of our lives a better place. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Ciolino family for their loss.

To the Ciolino Family: I am truly sorry for your loss of a model human being. I was fortunate to a classmate of Greg and in later life we enjoyed sharing good times when ever my wife Joan and I would visit Majoria Drug store. We shared laughter, joy and most of all the Blue Jay spirit that many has come to know. I will remember him in my times of trouble knowing that if I would model his calm , class, and strength, I will be alright. He was a kind man. My wife would get to know him as we visited Majoria and was instantly aware of his kindness and generosity. We both share a sense of loss . We will miss him and it will never be the same without Greg greeting us at Majoria.
