Gregory Thompson Obituary

Gregory Dennis Thompson passed away on August 26, 2022 at the age of 75. He was faithfully married to Cathy Hill. They would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this December. They were blessed with two children, Jane Thompson Russo (Jeffrey) and Scott Thompson (Shelley Luke). He was the proud "PawPaw" of Matthew Russo, Emma Russo, Connor Russo, Emily Thompson and Ryan Thompson. He was "Fairy Godfather" to his niece Claire Hill Schiro. He is also survived by his siblings, Winona Thompson Mediamolle (Glenn) and Brad Thompson, numerous cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was the son of the late Joseph H. "Buddy" Thompson Jr. and Joyce Kramer Thompson. Born in New Orleans and raised in Metairie, Greg graduated from East Jefferson High School and Louisiana State University- New Orleans. After graduation, he worked for 42 years at Boh Bros. Construction in the Pile Driving and Marine Division until his retirement in 2012. He was a resident of Destrehan for 40 years before moving to Madisonville to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Greg was an avid golfer, enjoying the sport for over 60 years. He was a charter member and served on the Board of Directors at Ormond Country Club (now Cypress Lakes). He overcame two strokes and persevered through disability to continue playing the game he loved.
