Sister Greta Jupiter

Sister Greta Jupiter (nee Gwendolyn Mary Jupiter), daughter of the late Ulysses Pere Jupiter and Emelda Oubre Jupiter, entered eternal life on August 28, 2021. Sr. Greta was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family on August 8, 1965, upon graduation from St. Mary's Academy. She professed First vows on August 15, 1968, and Perpetual vows on August 15,1973. After furthering her education at Xavier and the University of New Orleans, Sr. Greta served in ministry to the people of God primarily as an educator in Louisiana at St. Mary's Academy as teacher, development director and president, as instructor at Xavier University, and at Holy Rosary Institute, Lafayette; in California as teacher and principal at Regina Caeli High School while she continued her education at California State University at Long Beach. After serving as Associate Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of New Orleans from 1998 to 2002, Sr. Greta was appointed president of St. Mary's Academy. In 2006, Sr. Greta was cofounder of the MAX School, consisting of St. Mary's Academy, St. Augustine High School, and Xavier Prep High School, which was setup as a result of Hurricane Katrina. She also served as Senior Outreach Consultant for "The Road Home" to assist displaced families after Katrina. She worked for Christopher Homes Management in placing the elderly into St. John Berchmans Manor when it reopened. Sr. Greta was elected Assisted Congregational Leader of the Sisters of the Holy Family in 2010 and became Congregational Leader in 2014 upon the death of the Congregational Leader. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Wilbert D. Jupiter, and sister Marlene Jupiter Coubarous. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Monica Jupiter Bozonier (George), four brothers Ulysses P. Jupiter, Jr. (Sharon), Byron L. Jupiter, Sr. (Edith), Glen J. Jupiter, Sr. (Estella), and Peter J. Jupiter (Cheryl), sister-in-law Jocelyn Johnson Jupiter-wife of late brother Wilbert D. Jupiter, and nephews and nieces. She will be truly missed by family, friends, and Religious sisters. Funeral arrangements are Wednesday September 15, 2021 at the Motherhouse Chapel of the Sisters of the Holy Family 6901 Chef Menteur Hwy. Visitation begins at 8:00 a.m. Wake services begin at 9:15 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment at St. Louis Cemetery #2. Arrangements entrusted to Majestic Mortuary (504) 523-5872. Due to COVID-19, proof of vaccination and/or recent testing and wearing of mask is required to attend services. Social distancing is highly encouraged.
