Halina Margan Obituary

Halina Ring Margan 1945 -- 2019 Halina Ring Margan, died peacefully at St Anna's Lambeth House April 9. Born in Magnitogorsk, Russia. Halina moved to Australia and spent many wonderful years there. She lived in South Africa and Israel for a time before settling in New Orleans. A lifelong traveler Halina had a lively curiosity and sense of adventure. Halina earned her PhD at Tulane and spent many years in the social work field helping others. A compassionate friend, a bibliophile, and animal lover. She was a person who truly listened and would do anything to help those in need. Halina was a brilliant and extraordinary woman who will always be remembered for her kindness, her beautiful smile and her love of hats and high heels. Halina was adored by all who knew her. Her vital spirit will live on in their hearts and she will forever be remembered as a woman of enormous generosity, loyalty and above all, love. She was preceded in death by her beloved spouse, Igor Margan in 2018, her treasured brother, Nathan Ring 2012 and her sister in law Valda whom she loved dearly. Halina is survived by her cherished niece and nephew, Amanda and James Ring of Melbourne Australia, and by many devoted friends worldwide. Loved ones will memorialize Halina at a private service in New Orleans and in Australia.

I love every part of you. Your vibriant smile, upbeat personality, colorful dresses, happy hats, selfless nature, articulate speech, pretty face, and warm welcome whenever my wife Barbara and I met you and Igor for wine and dinner. There is none like you and I am certain you are keeping those with you in heaven laughing through eternity. My grief will always be my way of loving you from a distance. Till we meet again.

Very sorry to find out about Halina’s passing. She was very inspiring to me and helped me more than anyone in my life. She guided me through some difficult times years ago, and helped me break through to the person I am today. I am forever grateful.

Regretfully I wasn't very close to my Aunt but I did speak with her a few times over the years about my interest and passion for social work. Her obituary was beautifully written, it is clear she leaves a legacy of compassion and understanding for human need and suffering. As a social worker I feel proud to walk a similar path as hers, it would have been such a privilege to gain more knowledge and work beside her.

I'd like to express my deepest and most sincere condolences to her family and those who new and loved her.

RIP Auntie Halina. Social workers earn angel wings on earth so I'm sure you are resting peacefully.

I visited both Igor and Halina prior to their passing. They were definitely a bonded pair and my wife Barbara and I adored them. Halina always made my wife feel special. Barb and I spent many Friday nights in front of Igor's on St. Charles drinking wine and enjoying their company. She was always upbeat, sweet, kind and had always treated others as if they were important. Truly a loss but now she is once again with Igor.
