Harvey Marice Obituary

Harvey P. Marice, M.D., passed away at home at the age of 80 on Saturday, October 21, 2023. He graduated from Isidore Newman School in 1964. He earned his Bachelor of Art from Tulane University in 1966 then graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine in 1974. He enjoyed a successful career which began 1975 and served as an anesthesiologist from 1979 to 2005 at Ochsner Hospital. Harvey was a long-term resident of Old Metairie, LA and Four Mile Village, FL. He was a member of many medical organizations, as well as a long-time member of both the Boston Club and the Crescent Club. A curious man by nature, he was exceptionally knowledgeable about almost everything. Moreover, he will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. Born in New Orleans, LA on December 12, 1942, he was the only son of the late Alvin Marice and the late Helen (Powell) Marice. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marjorie Alice Marice. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 56 years, Mary Weed Marice; his devoted son, Marshall P. Marice and his wife Dr. Shanna Rose Thompson of Dracut, MA; his devoted niece, Mary Beth Maygarden; as well as other nieces, nephews, close friends, and extended family. His joie de vivre and lust for life included: Dr. Marice's Miraculous Christmas Elixir, Annual Fourth of July Pyrotechnic Extravaganzas, lasers paving the way to Heaven, Christmas trees decorated beyond belief, a steel drum made for him in Trinidad, and of course a one-third scale Navy cannon. He always said, "I enjoy anesthesia because it gives me the means to pursue my passions." Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Noon at the Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124. He will be laid to rest with his daughter at their family's niche in the Chapel at Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are encouraged to be sent to Dr. Bridget Bagert, Ochsner Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Center, 1514 Jefferson Hwy, New Orleans, LA 70121, and the Coffeen Land Trust (restricted funds for the tear down of the Castle), 146 Coffeen Hill Road, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 23459. Mary, I am so sad to hear of Harvey's death. He (and you also of course) was a god send to me and my children when we were going through a very hard time. We couldn't have made it without the two of you. We spent many happy times both at your house in Metairie and in Four Mile Village. The children and I send our love.

I grew up with Harvey in a neighborhood filled with kids of many various ages all hanging out together. It´s was a great time for us. My late brother Johnny was probably the closest with Harvey. I have many wonderful memories of those times - one in particular of his unbelievable comic book collection on racks in his back den. Neighborhood camping out? Call Harvey because he will have all the equipment needed! May he rest in peace and may his family know he was integral part of a great neighborhood gang during a wonderful growing up period.
