Helen Ray Cheffen

It is with a celebration of life spirit that we announce the absence from the body, and being present with the Lord of our loving mother Ms. Helen Ray Cheffen of Morganza and New Roads La. Helen and her sister Adele "Pie" Singleton left this earth hand in hand on the same day and minutes apart from each other. Helen was raised in Morganza and New Roads, La. She was born in New Orleans, La and resided in LaPlace, La for over 24 years. She was a longtime member of New Home Ministries under the direction of God and the tutelage of the late Bishop Robert C. Blakes Sr. She is a graduate of Batchelor High School in Batchelor, La., and she worked as a nursing assistant (CNA). She authored her novel entitled "Some Light, But Viewing The Dark Side" She was predeceased by her parents Ernest Cheffen and Eunice (Cheffen) Wilson and William & Rebecca "Big Momma" Kenney; brothers Clarence Goffner, Sam Milton and Richard Milton; sisters Inez Cheffen, Adele "Pie" Singleton, Dorothy Hatten, Rose Cheffen, and Avian Wilson. She is survived by her sons Carl Cheffen (Deonca), and Rotajuana Cheffen (Sarah); daughters Nina Cheffen Melton (Charles) and Veronica Cheffen Shawl (late June); brothers, Fabian Wilson (Venessa) and Troy Cheffen; sisters Elvenia Robinson (Charlie) and Betty Cheffen. Her memory is also cherished by her 16 grandkids, 18 great-grandkids and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Helen passed on surrounded by loved ones, and will be cherished forever. Service will be held on 01/26/2023 at Doyle Funeral Home, 2430 4th Street, Slidell, La 70458. Visitation at 10:00am & Service at 11:00am.
