Helen Frances Joiner Pointer

Helen Frances Joiner Pointer (known to all as Pudney) passed away in New Orleans on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the age of 85. She was born in Memphis, TN to Joseph Edward Joiner and Helen Frances McGowen Joiner. She is preceded in death by her husband, David Pointer, Jr. (Bud), and her parents. Pudney grew up in Clarksdale, MS and graduated from Clarksdale High School. She spent 11 idyllic summers at Camp Riva-Lake in Winchester, TN. She attended college at Randolph-Macon Women's College, where she was elected president of her freshman class, and pledged Chi Omega Fraternity. She transferred to Ole Miss her sophomore year, and upon graduation became one of the first women admitted to Ole Miss Law School, but left after her first year to marry Bud and move to New Orleans. She was actively involved with the Junior League, Trinity Episcopal Church and School, Newman School, and Christ Church Cathedral. Pudney adored art, the opera, history, and traveled extensively. She served as a docent for the Newcomb Art Museum and the New Orleans Museum of Art for many years. She is survived by her sister, Edwynne Joiner Love (Robert), her sons David Taylor Pointer (Carol), Edward Joiner Pointer (Marilyn), and daughter Anne Pointer Heaviside (Jeff). She is also survived by her grandchildren David T. Pointer, Jr., M.D. (Lauren), Paige Pointer Rachal (Travis), Andrew McGowen Pointer, Susan Shelbourne Pointer, Conner Lee Heaviside, Helen Taylor Heaviside, and three great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Lambeth House for caring for Pudney during her last years. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at 11:00AM on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Christ Church Cathedral, 2919 St. Charles Ave, New Orleans, LA. Visitation will begin at 10:00AM.
