Herbert Horil Obituary

Herbert H. Horil, Sr., an industrial engineer and consultant, died Thursday, August 21, 2003 at his residence of complications from lung cancer at age 78. Mr. Horil was born in New Orleans, LA on May 11, 1925 to Ferdinand J. Horil, Sr. and Cora Leona Schulz Horil. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1942. During the Second World War, he served in the United States Navy, after which he earned a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering at Louisiana State University where he was a charter member of Pi Epsilon Tau, an honor fraternity in that field. After retiring from Kaiser Aluminum in 1985, he continued working both as an independent consultant as well as assisting his son in his independent manufacturers' rep agency business. Mr. Horil is survived by his beloved wife, Marie Louise Hallaron Horil; five children: Maureen (Mrs. Leonard) Labiche, Kathleen (Mrs. Hugh) Moore, Herbert H. Horil, Jr., Cherreen (Mrs. Jon) Gegenheimer and Melanie (Mrs. Henry) Billiot; one brother, Joseph L. Horil; and 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his parents; two sisters: Evelyn Horil Elfer and Leona Horil Buchert; and one brother, Ferdinand J. Horil, Jr. Visitation will be at MOTHE FUNERAL HOMES, INC., 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA from 9:30 until 10:45 Saturday morning, August 22, 2003. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:15 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Gretna, LA. Interment to follow in Lake Lawn Cemetery, Metairie, LA. The family prefers prayers in lieu of flowers.
