Hilary Otillio Obituary

Hilary Walker Otillio, age 98, peacefully entered eternal life on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 4, 1926, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the proud parents of Paul Frank Otillio, Sr. and Lillian Reine Otillio. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Catherine Hitzman Otillio, and his beloved son, Gary Michael Otillio. Sisters Lillian Otillio Bishop, Gloria Otillio Pilotte, Vera Clarie Otillio, Paul Frank Otillio, Jr., Narcisse "Fats" Otillio, Havard "Hap" Otillio, and Father Martin Otillio, O.P., and his parents. He leaves behind his daughter Karen Otillio Johnson (Gary), sons Martin Peter Otillio, Kenneth Gerard Otillio (Michelle Ebeier), and Frederick Paul Otillio (Kathryn Brown), and daughter-in-law Denise LeBlanc Otillio to cherish his memories. He was the proud "Gramps" of Hillary Johnson Canale (Thomas), Ashley Johnson Fabro (Brian), Katie Johnson, Eliska Otillio, Ian and Cain Otillio, Kannon and Maggie Otillio, Seth and Zachary Otillio. He was the great "Gramps" of Carter, Bennett, Walker Canale, Brennan and Hudson Fabro. Hilary was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Metairie, Louisiana, since 1955. He was a proud Marine veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific. After an honorable discharge, Hilary returned home and graduated from LSU with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He remained a proud "Fighting Tiger" throughout his life. After 37 years of service in the Fossil Plants with LP&L, he retired as Plant Manager of Little Gypsy Generating Station in Montz, Louisiana. He was a charter member of Green Acres Country Club and enjoyed camping, playing golf, and family gatherings. Hilary was an usher and spent time in the adoration chapel at St. Edward the Confessor Church. Although he was a big sports fan, his family always came first. They remember him as their loving, enthusiastic Gramps who cheered them from the sidelines of all their sporting events and dance recitals. Most of all, he inspired them with his deep faith, positive quotations, and unconditional love. Hilary proclaimed the gospel by the way he lived his life. Those who are blessed to know Hilary Otillio will treasure the words he would use to end their conversation: "May God Bless and Have a Great Day." Relatives and friends are invited to visit Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, on Thursday, October 24, 2024, starting at 11:30 a.m. The visitation will be followed by a funeral mass in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. The burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The family invites you to share your thoughts, fond memories, and condolences online at www.greenwoodfh.com.

I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep your whole family in my prayers. Being a next door neighbor to his family I enjoyed the friendship of his daughter. I remember combing her hair since it was difficult to reach the knots.her father was almost always at work unless it was his day off. He added a spacious and beautiful family room to their home and I was there when it was being finished on the decorative ,colorful floor treatment.
The children all loved their father and would attend church regularly. I will surely miss this sweet and shy man as I also was shy. Our Lord and savior will know he made a big difference in the lives of his beloved family. God loves those who help.

I´m so sorry for your loss. I am praying for you all. May God give you comfort during this very difficult time. Please know that your loved one is safe in God´s memory (Proverbs 14:14,15). Just as God brought his son Jesus Christ back to life, he will do the same for your loved one as he has promised.

I remember Hillary when I first came to work for LP&L as a Cadet Engineer in 1976. He was serving as the Assistant Plant Manager at Waterford Units 1&2 while the Unit 3 Nuclear plant was being built. In those days Nuclear was not a separate group. I did not know he was a Marine (both my grandsons are active Marines). He was a straight shooter and ran a tight ship. My Dad also served in the Pacific in WW2. They were the Greatest Generation and we need more people like Hillary and my Dad today. May Hillary Rest in Peace in his Heavenly Home with our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
